One of our TPF members WLPelzmann has probably taken some of the best shots of the Bisti Badlands. I suggest you try and look at some of his shots. He is really good and also a wealth of knowledge considering he is a Geologist.

Looking at your schedule I keep thinking of Chevy Chase in the vacation movie at the GC . Nod your head at it a few times and haul A$$. It also reminds me of some of my trips out there. Never seems to be enough time . Enjoy! Bob

Gordon, after several mentions of Bisti by yourself and others I checked out some galleries of Bisti including Bill's, which were excellent. Definitely looking forward to this stop now. We should be able to get to Farmington in plent of time to shoot late afternoon there on Sat. If you're going to be around then and would like to go, just let me know.

LOL. Well, I don't think we'll be that rushed. I'd like to have more time at the North Rim in particular, but we'll at least have time to shoot sunset, sunrise, and get in a day-hike while we're there.

PM me and I will plan on it. I do have to make a trip to my sisters 50th wedding anniversary in Coleman TX. in June but I think I'll be back home before your trip begins.

Well, we're back from our trip. It was fun, but busy. For the most part we stuck to the itinerary above, although we didn't get to do quite as much hiking as I'd hoped. It was pretty hot especially at the lower elevations due to the heat wave the southwest is currently experiencing, so the cooler temperatures at GC and Bryce were nice. The driving wasn't bad, although getting across TX is pretty boring. The only part of the trip that was maybe a bit tiresome was loading an unloading the car every day, since we stayed somewhere different every night (except for our two nights in Vegas). Still, I don't think I would leave anything out if I were doing it again, as it was a great experience. We'll definitely be back, and next time we'll be able to spend more time at some of the locations that we most enjoyed.

It'll take me a while to get the images edited and posted, but in the meantime I've created a new blog to post my journal from the trip to share with friends and family. So if you're interest you can read it here.

Nice blog you've got there, Jeff. Sounds like a long and very tiring trip. I'm looking forward to your photos (i.e. hurry up )!

Yeah it was the longest trip we've taken so far, although the time seemed to go by really fast (probably because we were so busy). The most tiring thing was the long summer days; being out shooting for both sunrise and sunset is really tough this time of year. Hopefully the pictures were with it; the weather didn't always cooperate, so at some locations I had to try to find something different than the traditional grand vistas (which really require amazing skies to rise above standard fare).

Yeah, I shot quite a few panos. I had the full RRS rig with me most of the time, although I did leave it behind on one of the hikes to save weight and ended up regretting it. I'm going to have a lot of stitching to do...
