Hi folks,
I am very interested in using my photography to highlight humanitarian issues around the world (Africa, in particular, since I am familiar with many different countries having spent 10 years of my life there). I hope this doesn't violate the political/religious injunction in this thread!

But, I am currently a little short on funds and living paycheck to paycheck, so travel and equipment purchases are not really possible. Does anyone have any experience with any grant funding organizations, or know how to go about pursuing this line of work?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Peace,
GKB

I think Mr. Natchwey has beaten you to that part of the world regarding humanitarian issues.

Why not look in your own back yard for opportunities to show humanitarian issues? You know the old saw, "Think globally but act locally."

We don't have to go half way around the world to find suffering and reveil it with a compassionate eye. The eye of compassion just needs to look around where it is.

I agree that Nachtwey has certainly staked his claim, but he cannot be everywhere and do everything. I certainly hope not, at least.

I would never claim that my work is anywhere near as good as his is, or will ever be, but perhaps there is a way to complement what he is doing, or perhaps work with a different audience in mind...
