i bought my daughter a 2 year old Saturn there several years ago. its been a great car for her. it had 21,000 miles on it and in really good shape.

some of their fees are weird and maybe you can talk them out of a few fees.

some people have had bad luck with carmax, but when you buy a used car you should always be cautious.

I tell you what, I know lots of people that have bought from CarMax. And they were all happy. I have even considered it myself. But they are a little on the high side as far as used car prices go.

But hey, they say you get what you pay for. Of course they also say a fool and his money are soon parted.

Man I wish they would get thier crap straigh and make up thier mind.

Prophet out.

All I know is that I see a lot of like new cars with the Carmax decal on the back. a friend went looking for a used Tahoe for his girl friend and told me their prices weren't that bad but they couldn't come up with as low an interest rate as one of the new car dealers.

They are a little on the high side when it come to pricing.
But I've sold my last 3 cars there and they give me WAY more then the new car dealerships would. You don't even have to buy from there to sell them your car.
I sold my last truck there, which I had for less then 2 years(I got it new) and at all the dealerships I went to they had me up-side down and rolling over thousands to the next car. But I then go to carmax and I'm getting a check back after the note was paid Not bad for a not quite 2 year old truck.

My current car I'm driving is from carmax also, so far so good.

you can proably haggle elsewhere and get a bit lower price, but not much if the seller has any brains at all. We've bought 2 cars, they've both been great. As always, have an independent mechanic check it out, don't buy on emotions and take your time.

we bought my 97 Camry (in 98) with 15k on the odo, I gave it to my son a few weeks ago with 200k.

we bought a 93 accord with ~40k, my other son still drives it daily with ~100k.

wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again, altho their prices on 1 year old Civics were not enough less than a new one, so we bought new this time. Plus the loan rates on new were a lot better at the time.

My brother in law has bought 2 vehicles from carmax. His first one a mustang GT which he drove into the ground. It was getting ready to throw a rod, so he took and sold back to carmax and got 3k for it. Went back the next day and bought a jeep. He has been very happy with them.

I bought a 2002 Toyota 4Runner from Carmax(Houston: I45N/1960) with less than 32K miles. The price I got it for was not much different had I haggled with a car salesman at another location but at least I avoided that hassle. And I believe each car comes with a Car-Fax report. I've put an additional 38K miles on it and still running strong.
If you do choose to buy and decide to go with one of their lenders, refinance with your bank. My APR went from 9-10?% (0 down) to 3.3%.

I've always considered them on the high-side pricing wise....BUT they've been friendly enough when I've been there with other people and if not haggling is valuable to you then it might just be worth it! Personally I will only buy used cars from private individuals (I'm cheap, I like to haggle, and I can fix/diagnose most anything.) I certainly wouldn't recommend my car buying model to a lot of people though...

I've bought 3 autos from them, and know 4 people that sell cars for them. I've always felt their cars are more trustworthy because of the inspection process they have to go through, and you pay a little more for that. The guys that work for them have always said good things about them. Whether you buy a $5k or a $50K the salesmen gets the same amount for selling a car. At least thats the way it was a couple of years ago.

Carmax is the only place I'll buy cars from. My last deal with them resulted in me getting 3k more than bluebook for my trade, and 5k under bluebook for the car I bought. I know I got an unusually good deal and don't expect as good in the future, but I despise car dealerships. The thought of having to go into any place other than carmax makes me ill.
