Chris, If you are going to do photo editing (other than levels, curves, and cropping), then I echo Amy's suggestion --- get a tablet. You'll have a lot more control.

My birthday is coming up and the wife is asking. What's the recommended size for photo editing?

Mark, The Wacom INTUOS tablets (http://www.wacom.com/intuos/index.cfm) come in various sizes. I use the 9x12 - it does take up a lot of room on the desk, but I like the large area it provides. It comes with the cordless pen and mouse.

Yup, they all come with the mouse & pen (and a pen stand.) A bigger tablet would be awesome, but I think the 6x8 will work just fine for me. It's bigger than I thought it would be, actually. For the price B&H is selling the refurbs, I say get at least the 6x8 graphire.

I can't wait to use it some more. It took a few minutes to get used to the pen control, vs a mouse control, but once I did it was really nice. And the pressure-sensitivity become intuitive so quickly. :)

What's the major advantage of the Intuos vs the graphire?

the intuos comes in larger sizes, and more importantly, has more sensitivity. The graphire series has 512 levels of sensitivity or pressure, the intuos has 1024, I believe. You can compare them on the Wacom.com website.
