Before You Attend A Workshop Look At This!!!! - 04-29-2007, 10:50 AM

http://photogvendors.wordpress.com/

Man oh Man I found this site through another photography forum and its causing a huge uproar in another photography forum, especially the photography workshop reviews. But I think the young lady that started this is a genius, people should know about a vendor before they give away their hard earned cash. And its sad that you cant talk openly in some forums if you attend a workshop and it was horrible. But I thought I would post this so everyone can know about it. It also has other vendors like website providers (bludomain), and other stuff.
None of the people that offer workshops in the forum are listed but I think it would be good for people to start adding them so others can know if the vendor is worth the money.

Keep in mind that the very negative reviews may be written by people affiliated by competing workshop providors.

Daniel that is also true, some people can have their own personal vendetta, and several photographers on there do have haters and people who are jealous, so they are using this great tool to slam a photographer. I have never attended any of these workshops but I will say that one of the photographers on there has been very generous to me about certain information via email.
But what a lot of people are saying about these workshops is this, just because your a great photographer doesnt mean you can teach people. Teaching is a very skilled craft and not everyone can do it. I think that was the problem with most of these workshops and the problem people were having. When this came up in the other forum that was the main topic, teaching skills.
I have recieved emails from beginners asking about a natural lighting class, but I would never in a millions years offer a class and take someone's money because I cant teach....lol
I can offer technical/hands on help but not classroom......

BTW Angelo thanks for the comment!!

And the positive reviews could be by the workshop host or their "fans"! lol

Before attending a workshop, you need to know what you want to get out of it, study the photographer, see to ensure his/her work/business is what you want to go after.

I have attended several - NONE cheap, but I've researched and been selective about them. I think training is critical to one's growth as a photographer (art) and as a business. Invest wisely, BUDGET for it, and look for the ROI on it.

I am becoming much more selective on who's workshops I attend and for the remainder of this year have only planned on one. I have some planned for January and am thinking of another in February that I've put off for two years now.

The knowledge (and networking) I have received from the ones I've attended have helped me tremendously. Again, invest wisely. Don't believe everything you read. Do your research.
