I have a samsung blackjack, its ok but its very limited, and yes I would like to stay with AT&T. I will be working out of the country so I need a phone that will work in South America. Texting is important.

Just buy a unlocked GSM phone to use down there and get a SIM card when you get there

Quote:
Mobile telephone GSM networks cover Caracas but are sparse outside of the city. Coverage is limited to around Caracas and major cities. Roaming agreements exist with some international mobile phone companies.

If your carrier does not have a workable deal for using your GSM phone in Venezuela you can purchase a Sim card for your "unlocked" GSM phone. GSM allows network operators to offer roaming services which mean subscribers can use their phones all over the world. One of the key features of GSM is the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM), commonly known as a SIM card.

if you want an iphone, I would seriouslly wait until they come out with a 3g version of the iphone later this year or early next year.

I have played with an iphone and I am not impressed with it. typing on the touch screen is very hard to do, dont get me wrong its cool and all, but why shell out over $400 for it when you will want to get the 3G version of it later. and there wont be an upgrade option, it will be another $500 or so out of your pocket

you'd be better off asking the people you'll be working for there .. they'll know for sure if the cell service reaches

I just went from the Moto Q to the Treo 700wx (long story as to why).

Upside:

More Ram (not as "laggy")
True PDA as opposed to just a smartphone
much better battery life

Downside:

Slightly larger
More expensive

All in all, I think it was a good upgrade.

How much battery life were you getting with your Q? With my checking mail every 15 minutes and normal use I get 2ish days usually

I've had the t-mobile Dash (aka "The Q Killer" ) for a few months and love it. I'd considered waiting for the iPhone and switching services, but everything I've read about experiences with the iPhone have been less than glowing. The Treo, though, has received plenty of praise and should be a very worthy choice.
