dial up internet connection - 05-05-2007, 01:52 PM

i need to sign my parents up for a dial up internet connection.

yes a dial up internet connection, dont ask why and dont suggest dsl or high speed.

I have looked at net zero for $9.95 a month. but cant find much else for the Houston area.

all I need is a dial up internet connection, no anti virus, no email no bells and whistles no extras, just a darn slow ass connection to the internet.

anyone have any ideas??? this connection wont be used much , maybe an hour a day.

James

We used both of those a while back. People PC used to have reduced priced access for around $6.95 per month via Sams Club. Not sure if they still do.

Nethere.com is another option. Doesn't push anything at you, can be paid yearly at a reduced rate. You can check for local dial up number availability on their website.

ev1 no longer provided service - they switched everyone over to peoplePC.

Be wary of cheap ISP's that require software downlad to work - some are no better that having spamware on your computer.

Why?

What about DSL?

thanks everyone.

my dad currently has DSL, but only uses it to check his email. so its a waste of money for him when lower cost dial up will do just fine.

i may even look into one of those limited dial up connections thats like $5 for 25 hours a month

Oh thats RIGHT they did! I forgot ALL about that! thanks for the reminder. I agree about the cheap ISPs and downloading of software. They could have a TON of spyware built in to their software.

I have an uncle in Brazoria county using academicplanet.com, and our daughter in Williamson county using it too. No complaints.
