we used them years ago to make prototype parts. I hope they have improved the material it uses, as the stuff was useless for any real-world use.

Realize that whatever you make from it is going to have to be suitable for that particular type of plastic that can be thermoformed.

Lens caps you could do.

Shoes? I don't think so........

The rapid prototyper on campus is a wax type (not sure on the exact model or any of that) and its models are useless for anything besides careful handling and display. I suppose they've got better materials now though; our machine is a bit old.
