Well, I thought I would post this here, since in my brief time on the forum I have come to see what a wonderful and reasonably close-knit family we have here.
The Good: My wife and I just found out we are about 15 weeks pregnant... maybe twins!
The Bad: My wife and I have also just decided that we do not see eye-to-eye on pretty much anything, and that the fighting is too much, so we are going to try a trial seperation for a year.
The Ugly: The seperation will involve my wife moving back to Virginia with her family, and taking the kids with her (we agreed on this). She will also be taking the only vehicle and means of trasportation, since she and her grandfather are co-owners.
My Plea for Help: She will be leaving the first week of July, so by then I will need to find an affordable vehicle with good mileage (Civic CRX or some other such cheap small car- preferably 5-speed). In order to be able to afford this, and insurance (her granparents take care of that now), as well as additional child support payments, I need to find a new job with a minimum salary of $40k annual. I have extensive sales and customer service experience, both in retail (ugh) and insurance. Prior to that I worked in trades as a cabinet builder and installer. My current position is at Lowe's as a kitchen designer. Love the job, hate the retail hours and the headaches. I cannot afford additional schoolong now, nor have time. Any help will be greatly appreciated; I have a resume ready if anyone wants it. I may post a link to my CareerBuilder resume in the near future.
You may reply here, or send pm to me. [EDIT] The job need to be close to SOuth Ft Worth, unless the pay is significantly good.
You folks are the best!!!
Anthony

Better Job, and a cheap vehicle. And maybe alittle moral support too
Sometimes its not so much what you know, as WHO you know!

I had another car, but I gave to a friend who needed it.
You know, to add to that line.... it's not who you know, it's who remembers you.
Post your resume, you never know who may be able to help.

UPDATE: The moving company will be here Friday 5.18 for her stuff, and she is flying out and also shipping the truck on May 29. I will be car shopping tomorrow, but I don't know how I can do anything with pretty much no money (less than $50 in bank). I may find a vehicle , but without insurance and tags, etc I am still stuck. I REALLY need that better job, and fast!!! Either that, or a sugar-mama
Anyway, if there are any ideas out there, I sure could use the help.
Thanks again, folks.
Anthony

I can only offer my prayers and a tip possibly, You may want to hit up the temp agencies. They may be able to find you a temp to perm position that could at the VERY least help you out until a better job comes along or until the job they placed you at takes you on perm.
I wish I had more to offer.....hugz!

Sorry to hear about all that but whatever happens in the end I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. May look dreary now but you'll be surprised how quickly things turn around.
So any specific reason you aren't willing to relocate? Just thinking if you expand your search you can find that job you are needing. I don't know Dallas but I'd look at one of the call centers. Requires zero experience and starting pay is good with usually lots of OT available. Plus, they are 24 hr centers so you aren't stuck to an 8-5 schedule. Now, if there is a Sales Call Center (i.e. like Dell here in Round Rock) I'd highly recommend getting in with them. Rather than doing the search yourself go to a Temp Agency in Dallas and tell them what you need. Dell utilizes TA's to fill it's immediate needs and alot of times they hire these temps (assuming they are performing.) Just my 2 cents.

Only issue in relocating is I just bought my first home, and could never find a place to rent for what I pay in mortgage, plus there is the 3 yr penalty thing if I sell/refi. But if the money was right, I could commute to dallas or even Addison, but it would seriously cut into my newfound (soon) freedom time.
I can find plenty of reasonably priced cars on craigslist and such, but a) they are too old to conventionally finance and b) I can't find anyone who can get me a $2000 personal loan, as my FICO score has tanked (seems to be a normal reaction) since I got a mortgage. I've lost 100 points off my score in a year.
Trying to convince my dad to get a loan and purchase car, then I pay him back after which he signs over title back to me. He's still thinkin about it.

I know its not your cup of tea, but I have been down and out before, and if I was again...I KNOW I could find some sort of work to hold me over until something better came along.
A few years ago, I lost a good sales job at a department store that closed (retail was the only field I had worked in at the time). I had bills to pay and only enough money in the bank to get us through about 3 months. I went straight from the "we're closing the store" meeting to Sonic, and started car hopping the next day. On my days off I went job hunting for a "real job". I car hopped for a month...the job sucked and money was tight, but we never had to dip into our emergency fund. | | | |
