Shooting Methods - 05-12-2007, 10:38 AM

So this is kind of a follow up with the Latitude post I did yesterday. I am wondering how many people here when you are out shooting, actually practice these methods such as thinking about the Latitude of your digital camera when shooting a high contrast scene, making sure you get the most information in the photo that you can. I am asking this because up until now, I have always just shot and if the photo looked ok in the LCD and the Histogram looks ok, then I am good, but this still does not say the photo was technically shot the correct way, that the photo I took could have been better if I had thought a little more about things like Latitude, WB, etc. I know WB can be set later when shooting RAW but it is nice to get it right the first time. Guess I am just saying that I will be thinking about these things more now that I have an understanding of the concepts.

I would spend more time worrying about composition and what do I want to communicate with the image than the Latitude, WB, etc. If it's not right in the heart all the tech in the world won't help and if the heart is right people aren't going to be thinking about the tech anyway.

I try to pay attention to how I'm composing the shot, I forget a lot of times though. I try to find strong verticle like a roadway or horizontal lines like a fence. I also use the 1/3 method, I think thats what its called, so I don't center the subject in the photo. I'm still learning and probably will be for a long time.
