Well it has been very successful. I have not had a cigarette since March 14, 2007. I have only had a minimal urge to have a smoke last week just once, but only a small urge and it has passed. I still have a refill I can get for a months worth of pills I can take if the urges get stronger. But Im pretty optimistic that I wont need them.
for any of the smokers out there, if you have been wanting to quit, talk to your Dr. about Chantix, its an awesome little pill. The side affects I had were very minimal and some could be avoided all together. I did have some funky dreams

Way to go ! I tried the chantix but wasn't succesful.I slowed down but never quit. May have something to do with the fact that I have been smoking since I was 12 (40 yrs). Also there is so much going on in my life right now, raising 2 grandbabies and huge changes at work ,I am stressed a lot. Doesnt mean I won't try again down the road. Keep up the good job. Great job! It's been just over 4 years since I quit. April 29th, 2003
I don't know much about the quit smoking aides, as I had tried things like the patch and gum with no success. Ultimately I had to just go cold turkey and use sheer will power.
I do remember the 2 month mark being very significant, as that was when I truly started to stop physically craving cigarettes.
That's the good news.
The bad news is that to this day I still crave a cigarette. I suppose it's different for everyone, but I did enjoy smoking. The one thing keeps me clean is that I know I will get no satisfaction if I did have a cigarette.
It takes about 4 or 5 smokes when returning to smoking before they 'taste good' again.
Anyways! Congrats, and stick too it!

Keep it up! The benefits will prove more rewarding than you think.

That is awesome...you should be VERY proud of yourself. I've never smoked but I understand that habit may be the most difficult to quit.. good for you..and keep it up!!

That's great James! Keep up the good work even if you have to get help from the pills.
It's been 2 1/2 years for me. I got help with Bupropion which is a substitute for Wellbutrin. It was probably the hardest thing I ever tried to do for myself. My wife is happier about it than I am and I can now go places and sit and enjoy company without have to fidget over a nicotine fit or have to go outside to satisfy it. Those things really had a grip on me. Didn't think I'd ever quit. Now I get to work on taking off pounds. That was the after effect for me, eating to much.
Stay the course. It's worth it.

good for you - but let me give you some words of caution. i'm on my second round of chantix..having successfully quit last year - and thought to myself..why get the additional medication?
big mistake. they prescribe 3 months of it for a reason.
i'm now into week 2 as of this morning and the quit date is friday.
go and get the prescription refilled...and keep taking it.

thanks everyone, I talked with the Dr. last week and he said as long as my cravings are very low or non existant that I dont need to take the pills.
actually I dont like taking medicines of any kind for more than a few days.
I have wanted to quit for a long time and never really enjoyed it, so im glad its going ok.

How long did it take before the pills started kicking in? I just started my two a day dosage.
