Got a driveway full of "X's" now...

Picked up my new-to-me 2004 Excursion Limited 4x4 6.0L yesterday.

Picked up my wife's new 2007 Xterra SE 4x4 a couple weeks ago.

My ex-wife? Well, she lives in Texas too, but trust me, you don't want to see a picture....

Man are trying to hurt me? I miss my Excursion so much. I swapped it two years ago for a Jeep Liberty 4x4 Limited which was fun for a little while, like driving a go cart, but now I want my Excursion back. Talk about a big difference I had to get used to. I used to be able to put one kid in the middle seat and one in the very back seat and I wouldn't hear a word from either. Now they have to set next to each other and they fight all the time! I was thinking of getting a Hummer H1 but after all the bad things I have heard about transmission, air condition and driveline problems I have decided to buy another Excursion. Let me know how you like the 6.0 powerstroke. I'm going to try and find one just like my last one, an Excursion 4x4 Eddie Bauer edition with either the 7.3 like I had or the 6.0. Congrat on the Excursion! I can remember my last fillup! man it hurt my wallet but worth every cent.

So far I really like the 6.0. I was orginally searching for a 7.3 because it has an impeccable reputation. I drove 5 or 6 that had 7.3's and i guess since they were older I just didn't like them. Felt like they were all over the road. This one drives nice and tight. The 6.0's don't have a great rep, but I thoroughly investigated this one, and it appears to be in good working order.

Yeah, I put fuel in it yesterday (dealer gave it too me with less than 1/4 tank, jerks. ) Pump cut off at 37 gallons and $100 . Still had 5 or more gallons to go. Of course the flip side of that is getting in, and the computer said "885 miles to empty." Can't beat 19.9 mpg so far in a 7000lb beast.

Something I learned about my was you really have to watch what yur doing when you change a front tire. The rotors are bad about warping if the lug nuts are not torqued down properly, be sure not to over torque them. I would have to have my frot rotors turned every 10 to 15,000 miles because the brakes would get so bad thta just barely touching the pedal would make the whole SUV shake like crazy. I finally learned that i needed to use a torque wrench to torque the lugs to the proper torque. After I started doing that I never had another problem with the rotors. It's a simple fix, just means using a torque wrench instead of the regular lug wrench. I think the torque was like 75 ft pounds. I've heard of the 6.0s having some problems but I'm hopeing they got them worked out and it was just the early ones. The 7.3 had a few problems when it first came out but they worked them out and it turned out to be a work horse, it's nothing to get well over 200,000 miles on one thats been taken care of. Heck I don't mind if my next one has 100,000 on it as long as I see it's been serviced like it was suppose to be and it looks like the owner took care of it.

Good freaking lord....it's a joke.

You could have just left it at...

"Coincidently diesel is 2.69 a gallon"

And I'd have probably responded something like "Blast!!!"

Yeah. Sorry. Cranky ass tonight.

I'm looking at property within walking and/or biking distance of home, in the hopes that when I graduate in December I'll be able to open my practice close by...

Coincidently, the Excursion replaced a 3/4 ton Dodge Hemi. Now I get about 20mpg, vs 14mpg in the truck. And the 2007 Xterra replaces a 2002 Xterra. The old one got a solid 17, so far it's 19.5 in the new one. Been told as the motor breaks in it gets better too....

Yep, i am planning on pulling the front rotors this weekend and having them turned. They do have a serious shimmy. People do that all the time, crank down the lugs, especially with aluminum wheels.

I found my Excursion after looking for about six months. I had to drive to San Antonio to get it. 2wd, diesel with 58000. It is possibly the finest traveling machine ever created.

The brakes are a design flaw that Ford just never decided to fix for some reason. For an SUV the size and wiefht of the Excursion it should have larger front rotors which would help the stopping distance and the rotor life but the ones it has were not unsafe so Ford just stuck with them. I thought about upgrading mine severl times but didn't want to let go of $2500 for StainlessSteel's brake kit. I did switch mine out for a set of drilled and slotted rotors and it helped wit the stopping distance somewhat. Also I was running 37" tires on mine which didn't help the brakes any. Other than the rotors warping pretty often I never had any problems out of mine. The whole truck is built like a tank!
The problem with the rotors warpping is in the rotors themself becasue mine did it even after installing aftermarket wheels. It seems their just picky about being torque properly and in the correct sequence. Just seeing your is making me want to hurry up and find another one, man I loved that SUV. Did you get the overhead entertainment system? Mine didn't come with it from the factory, only option it didn't have as far as I know, so I just installed two 15" flip downs and two Sony Playstations so each kid could watch their own movie or paly a game. The flip downs are a life saver, or at least a nerve saver, on long trips. I hardly ever heard a word out of my kids even driving from Carthage to the SanAntonio! The oil changes and fuel filter cost a little more but being able to let the engine idle for extended periods in hot weather so the inside stays cool plus being able to travel over 700 miles on a tank of fuel more than makes up for it to me.

I have not had a problem with the brake rotors on mine. I wonder if there is a difference between the 4x4 and 2x4 versions? Of course we have only put about 6500 on it so far. We are also running stock tire sizes and wheels. We decided against the 4x4 because it felt "softer" on the roads. I didn't like the body lean in the corners. I'll need tires soon. I'll have to check the lug nuts after I get them. BTW I really like that color.
