Poll - Should I get a tattoo and where?? - 05-16-2007, 09:51 PM

Ok, so here's the thing. I have wanted a tattoo for ages. Well, maybe not ages, but at least for 10 years or so. I nearly got one, but the tattoo places in Ireland are closed on Sunday. Anyway, shortly after that, I met my husband who is fairly conservative and really doesn't like tattoos...but I still want one.

So should I get one anyway? If so, does anyone know a good, clean place in DFW I could go?

(And yes, part of it is that I'm having issues with the whole stay-at-home-mom/soccer-mom thing. I'm just not that type of person...)

I personally don't like them at all. Not classy But that is just me. I won't judge anyone that does have one. It just ain't my thang. And seeing old wrinkled women with raisined versions years later isn't all that attractive either. LOL

You asked opinions.. There B mine.

BTW: I didn't vote... None of those fit my feelings on the subject. You may get it and love it.. Others may as well...And yet others may not. It's a personal thing I guess.

I say make sure hubby is okay with it, I have two, one on my shoulder blade and one on my ankle. I LOVE them, and got them before I met my husband........and have been threated with divorce if I ever get another one :) (hes MOSTLY kidding) They are addictive though, if my hubby wouldnt freak out, I would have more.

I will be driving down to Miami to get my tatoo done in the fall. I will be going to Miami Ink. Hence they seem to be doing a great job, and have some really good artists.

Yeah, long drive to get a tatoo, but well worth the drive. I got 2 friends that have gotten some done there and they are really nice. So i pick them to be the ones to stick it to me with a needle a thousand times. Not only that, but i will be on vacation there, so why not take advantage of it.

I don't want to wax poetic or something that will make me look like I'm some flower child, but a tattoo is clearly a way of expressing a feeling or idea that is important to you. What someone else thinks (with the exception of your spouse, perhaps) shouldn't matter at all. If you feel the need to express yourself in that way, then by all means do it. Just don't do it because it's cool, or you saw someone else with one.

I have a tattoo of a great white shark on my shoulder blade. There are many reasons why I chose that subject which are important to me. When I completed my Ironman Triathlon in 2000, I nearly got another one, but chose not to. I may get more, I may not. But if I do, it will be for reasons important to me.

E=Mc2, y=mx+b, printf("hello, world.\n");

Whew, I feel normal again

Somehow, I don't think Brent would go for that...especially not for a measely $1. Maybe for $10.

Thus all the names that have been changed later in life (via a tatoo mod) when that "important" person/thing became just the opposite. hehehe...

See, that's the other half of it. I don't know exactly what I want or where... It would definitely be something Celtic. I lived in Ireland during college and probably would have moved there if I hadn't met Brent and all that. Every once in a while, I bug him about it. I haven't been back since we got married two and a half years ago. Before that I, used to go at least once or twice a year. It's "home" even if I didn't grow up there. Besides that, I'm not conservative and I'm feeling the need to not be a soccer mom type. That's just not me...it might be what my husband would prefer...but it doesn't make me a bad mom, right? Ok, I think I've just had too much wine. But somehow rebelling against the soccer mom idea when Lana's not even a year old, seems like a bad reason to get one...well, maybe a bad reason no matter how old she is. But this is something I've been wanting for a while.

Though a tattoo that says "It's Not Rocket Science... (Oh wait, yes it is.) NASA) would also be fun and a bit of a laugh for me. I used to be a Rocket Scientist (kinda) before I quit to focus on photography and my daughter.

Trust me, Tom. The whole forum really doesn't need to see my @ss. Somehow I think y'all would seriously LYAO. Besides, I think my fairly conservative husband would really be upset if those kinds of images were posted on here. :-)

Erin, I voted to "talk hubby into it first". Why? Because to me a tat is really very minor on the list of things important in life. However, a happy marrital relationship is very high on my list of important things. And by the way, I don't think it should be a "do whatever makes your spouse happy" kind of thing. It should be a "getting your spouse to realize it's important to you and therefore support you in it" kind of thing. By the way, my wife has a tattoo...I don't. Would I get one...maybe, but it'd have to be important to me and I'd have to know exactly what I wanted, not just because I wanted one.
