Man I guess I am actually going to have to try some. So for just wanting to try some what should I try first?

Just like starting out with wine, I wouldn't suggest the stronger flavored varities. The Glenlivet is a good place to start IMHO. It's not expensive and available pretty much anywhere. The Macallan is another excellent single malt on the 'less complex' side of the spectrum. I'd start with the younger, less expensive versions before graduating up to the more aged (and pricey) bottles.

Best of luck!

What Scott said plus I'll throw in a vote for Glenfiddich. Anyone in here like any of the blends?
I have had Chivas regal before but it was about 25 years ago.
Don't really remember much about it accept that my friends doberman liked it.

I like Tamdhu, and some of the older Glenlivet (18 year archive). Glengoyne is also excellent. Most of the bottles I really like aren't available in the US (we keep the good stuff at home :) )

Ice ? did someone say ice ? are you mad ? :)

A very small drop of water lets the flavour exothermically release, no more than a few drops. No ice. Not totally neat, either.

I like Dalwhinnie and usually drink it neat. Sometimes with a cube or two of ice. It is a good highland malt IMHO.
