How much to charge??? - 06-15-2005, 09:28 AM

Ok, there is a local paintball field that is about to open up and they are wanting some promotional pic's done. They have built sort of an old west town and are wanting some pic's of guys with guns standing in front of the buildings kind of like the old timey pictures (think sepia).

Now, should I charge them a flat fee for the shole shoot, or charge by the picture? Whats a decent rate to charge for something like this? Im wanting to give them a good deal so I can get in with them. They will be having tournaments and I would like to be the one they call to have come out and shoot them.

id almost give them a flat rate which would include a couple of hours of shooting and also maybe a set of say two dozen or so images.

depending on what they're looking for, they may want a lot more images thatn that but who knows...

this is only my opinion... so u dont have to adhere to it. hehe

I was thinking about that, but I was also just thinking about making it a "per print" charge. That way i wouldnt get killed if they wanted a bunch more pictures than I origianally planned on.

Mongo
since your really don't have a portfollio and the fact that you have not done this before I would suggest you get a pricelist together on what prints will cost and charge him a per print cost, and donate your time to a learning experience..

as you stated, you want to get in with them for future work and you really don't know how your results are going to turn out yet... this way, you'll get the practice and your foot in the door.

Well, I went and talked to them today and thats pretty much what Im gonna do. Im going to get a list together of different print packages and give that to them probably tomorrow. They are wanting me to do both Tournaments and b-day parties. They are having a trial run tomorrow night with some local "pro's" so Im going over there to do some trial shots. Should be interesting since I will be shooting thru netting. That is unless I want to go inside the net and take the chance of getting nailed myself..lol

Well, this stuff isnt paint anymore, its a water soluble dye. Too many people were getting upset about all the trees getting paint on them that the companies had to change the contents of the balls...lol

but yeah, my plan is to stay behind the net if at all possible... :)

one thing i would do... is get a mask and shoot from the sidelines...

i know its a tough job but worth the results... wrap up the cam and lens in an old sweater or two and be sure to have a lens hood and maybe a UV filter on just in case..

I might try that too. Like I said, tomorrow is a trial run to see how it works from outside. Might be interesting shooting with one of those masks on. Not to mention HOT!
