$257.29 is what it is going to cost my company so I can do parts of my job that I used to be able to do with freeware.

my company mandated no more freeware/shareware and only company approved software is allowed on our PC's.

so now they get to spend $257.29 so i can make PDF's and edit my work related photos and a PC based map program.

I used to do all of this for free with free programs. So much for trying to save the company money.

their loss

rant over....

You can rant again - when they take it out of your raises and/or bonuses.

That is a small amount to pay when compared to the cost of one oops virus infection. From a corporate IT standpoint, allowing unlicensed, free, or shareware software on company computers is a liability far costlier than purchasing commercial applications. From a Sarbanes-Oxley accounting standpoint alone, it a massive problem in the corporate world.

I know it seems counter intuitive, but spending that little bit is far cheaper than the alternative. YMMV.

Heh, for what it's worth I am currently evaluating whether we should get a $12K software package. Not whether it's worth the price, but simply whether it will do the job we need :-)

Yeehaw. I have my preliminary meetings setup with E&Y next week for this year's pre-audit. Then PWC in September. The sheer joy of it all...
