Actually saw a story in the NY Times I believe on the subject.

Many of these Motor Courts were built pretty quickly in the 30's during the Depression and have not been kept up well at all.

Also you can see similar style Motor Courts in Dallas if you go to some of the old state highways (Ft Worth Ave near where Clyde Barrow is burried has a handful and their used to be some over on Harry Hines (may still be around near the old circle) and then a couple in east dallas that were dozed back 20 or so years ago).

I've driven a lot of Rt 66 from Oklahoma west, have not gone much from OK to Chicago on the old route but once you get into West Texas and further west you can find these old places mainly in the old towns that the road went through.
