Photog mauled by bear - 05-25-2007, 10:58 PM

So sad, I hope he really wasn't trying "anything for the pic" in this situation. He has had this happen before, so I have my doubts on whether this was an accidental encounter.
Let's see if I remember how to link this.

Edit: guess the link didn't work, can someone help?

Based on his past history, it would appear he hasn't learned a thing, and probably played hookey when Bears 101 was being discussed.

If he keeps this up he'll end up like Timothy Treadwell, the Grizzly Man.

Bear Spray? I'll take the Alaska solution, 18 inch barrel 12 gauge with slugs...

I believe studies done on bear encounters up there have actually shown pepper spray to be more effective than firearms.

Pepper Spray Works, But Don't Bet Your Life On It

PEPPER SPRAY
INEFFECTIVE
AGAINST BEARS

More effective for the bears or their victims?

Such studies were more than likely done by bunny huggers. There's nothing like a .338 Win Mag or .375 H&H to change an aggressive grizzly's mind.
