I wasn't going to mention this in here, since most are located in Texas and all. But, I thought some of you might be interested - Or might like a good excuse to take a photography class in a cool place. lol.
Mike and I are shooting an event in NY at the end of June and will be doing a $99 workshop in NY on July 1st. I thought if a few TPF peeps wanted to come, that might be fun. I'll post a workshop thread with that info, if anyone is interested.
I was thinking it might be fun if I can set you all up with how to get into the city, hotels and rental car deals that weekend. We travel up there a lot, so we know all that stuff. And, airfare is at a great price right now! $99 each way. So, if you wanted an excuse to go take photos in New York - here's your chance!

It's about an hour (depending on traffic) east of NYC (Manhattan). 50 miles by car to the Empire State Bldg. You can also take a commuter train (the LIRR) from Islip station to Penn Station in Manhattan. That'd put you on W34th St, near Madison Square Garden.

Hey! The workshop will be on Long Island - about 40 miles from Manhattan. Mainly to avoid getting mugged and all that. And Im thinking the photogs would be mugged B4 the bride - too much $ in equipment. So thats why the workshop is on the island.
If a group of TPF people come along, we can go into the city (Manhattan) for a day. I can set you up with what you need or tag along with you - if time permits.
There are a TON of great things to do in the city. And all you landscape artists might have a blast doing that too. There are some great spots to get shots of the Verrazano and Brooklyn bridges and cityscape spots.
There are some great restaurants near Broadway - and shows that you could go see. Plus - the Italian Ice Hut will be open in July! Wahhoo! And Mike will no doubt, have a pizza party. And Long Island has some kicking white sandy beaches.
I didn't think anyone would want to travel up that way - but in the off chance you do and can, it might be fun. At the very least - you'll have an adventure!

This thread NOT about the workshop - its about what we could do the WEEKEND of the workshop. Apparently it was moved to the workshop thread...No, I can't take you all over Manhattan, to the beach, to a Broadway show, and all that for $99. ;o)

Holly,
My wife and I made our first trip to the city in Jan of this yr. Went to a bunch of shows, B&H, etc. I hadn't bought my Camera yet, and was really wanting it, however, I am very leary of walking around taking pics in NYC. I felt extremely safe on the train and throughout the city with just my P&S, but I wasnt walking around with $3000 worth of camera stuff then. you guys have not had any problems with theft on all the trips you've taken up there? BTW, we would really love to go, I am going to talk to the wife tonight and see if she wants to make a go of it.

Rusty - the main thing is to not look like a target. A pile of people with huge cameras will draw attention - especially if you all are looking at the skyscrapers while walking around in the city. When we shoot in the city, we leave all our stuff with our driver and he circles and comes back for us. I only bring what I can carry. I've not had any issues - but at the same time, Im a NYer and know where to be, where not to be, and when to scoot. 1 body and an inconspicuous lens should be OK for walking around with - and not draw too much attention.

OK, so I've held off and can't take it anymore. What is a peep? I know about the candy peeps but is this also an anacronym? I spend more time on this forum making myself look stupid so here I go again.

Did I say peeps? | | | |

OK, thanks Holly. You can tell that I'm old and this is my first forum that I've actually participated in. I should have asked one of my kids. I was thinking, hmmm, Photo Enthusiast .................
I'll get there someday. I love NY and might consider this. Would it be in Manhattan? I'll keep watching the thread and see what my schedule is. What type of workshop anyway?
