Going to Nashville... - 05-28-2007, 04:37 PM

I'm going to Nashville to visit a friend in a few weeks. I'm not sure what I want to do while I am there. It's more about visiting than taking photos, but is there anything particularly cool (architecture or nature) I should see? We'll do a bit of a nature walk (I'm hoping to see a deer), but I don't know anything about the city. Another forum mentioned the Opryland Hotel and its gardens, and Fall Creek Falls State Park, which is probably too far away.

Has anyone every been to the Nashville Zoo? Is it any good, photographically speaking? I know not much can live up to Forth Worth, but I thought I'd ask. They have a white tioger back in 2004, but who knows if it's still there. Someone said that the exhibits are large which *might* mean it's photogenic.

Suzy,

Nashville is the home of country music. There are a number of bars, I believe on music row, where some of the country stars drop in to play. Nasvhille is also home of the country music hall of fame. If you like country music, there will be a number of things to see.

Well, I guess I should add that I have no interest in country music. I hate bars, too. Anything else? Thanks anyway David...

I believe there is a big paddlewheeler that travels on one of those big rivers ??
I've been to a big mall there and there is a great seafood restaurant that has fish everywhere. Like eating inside an aquarium.
Not very helpful, but I was onlly there a few days for a training seminar.

My time there is somewhat limited, but as I recall, there are quite a few older, interesting buildings (churches, etc) that might make for good photo ops. Here is a suggested walking tour of the downtown area.

What David said about the Parthenon. We saw it a few years ago and it would make a great photo op.

No interest in country music and hate bars? You're going to the wrong city

Thanks for the mention of the Parthenon replica, that sounds cool.

LOL! Like I said, I am mostly going there to visit my friend, and she doesn't like country music either.

If you're driving, stop off a day at Memphis, since you don't like country music.

I moved here from Nashville. There is alot to do there, from Opry Mills and the Opryland Hotel, to the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Ryman Auditorium. Also the walking bridge near Shelby Street Ave. was just opened up within the last year. It is an awesome bridge to get shots of at night. Lot's of good food and there are some nice bars.

Vanderbilt University is downtown, they have some nice old buildings. If you have an interest in history there are several civil war era landmarks/historical sites.

I'm kinda late responding to this, but thanks for everyone's replies. We're going to the Hermitage, Parthenon replica, and the hotel with all the atriums/gardens (maybe that's the Opryland hotel?) We'll also go check out some parks and maybe go to the zoo since it's near the airport. My friend got a Wii for her birthday, so we're going to play that, too!
