Has the site been changing? - 05-28-2007, 11:13 PM

It might just be me but it seems like the site isn't as easy going and down to earth as it used to be. It's still a great sight with the best members I have ever had the privilege of knowing but there just doesn't seem to be as much camaraderie as there used to be. I'm as much for learning as anyone else but it seems like things have become very serious. I still love visiting this site and would much rather drop in here than some of the other sites I visit, and no there not xxx sites. Maybe it's the time of year or maybe it's just me. Just setting here bored out of my brain and can't sleep as usual and this thought crossed my mind so i had to dump it out there or I would be thinking about it all night

Seems friendly enough to me. You just joined in May and have only posted 10 times. Give it some time. It takes people a while to get to know you.

umm.....you havent even been a member for a month yet...I dont see how you can make an assumption like that in that amount of time.

Actually its like anything else, you get out of it what you put into it. I went for a long time without posting and just assumed since I knew who most people were, that they knew who I was. Post and be active and you will get alot more out of this place.

I feel like I have learned as much about photography here as I did in two years of college.

I think Jon had some trouoble offline, and had some reasons to create a new nickname on the board, so while it may appear that he is new, I think he has been around the board for a while, at least that is the case if I am thinking of the right person.

Here is the original thread

http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=48961

I am not sure what his nick was before the change, so I can't speak to how long he had been around, but it is more than just this month.

Jon, as many people have said on here, the site has seen a huge growth in membership, and with that inevitably comes some changes, maybe not for the better, maybe not for the worse, just changes.

Hang in there, Jon. There are more members now than before but I believe, for the most part, the same mentality is still projected. People with the same passion trying to get better. People with the same passion helping others to get better.

It seems the forum is always changing, but there's no way to increase the members exponentially without also increasing different views (which can lead to tension). I just ignore those who need to be ignored. They're in the minority here, anyway.

Give the site and the people some credit. It is much more fun and useful than that. I cannot even begin to express how much I have learned and enjoyed the last year and a half since I discovered the forum. The talent and heart (from this website and it's members) is amazing! Even more amazing when you actually meet some of them in person and spend the day taking photos!

I think I might have come across sounding wrong in my post. I still love this site and think it has some of the best members of any site on the net. It just seems to have lost some of the playfullness it used to have. It could just be me and all the stress I've been under lately with going back to school after 20+ years, my mom's health, and several other things. Don't get me wrong though, I haven't had any problems out of anyone on here, if anything I've recieved moral support when I really needed it. I've learned more from the folks on here than any books or classes I have attended. I don't want anyone to think I'm not happy with TPF, heck look at how often I stop in and you can tell it's like a second home to me, actually the members are like a second family to me and have given me just as much support as my family has. I just seem to remember a lot of joking and ribbing going on and there might still be just as much going on but it just seems to have slacked off to me. Like I said it could just be the stress I've been under or it could be just a busy time of the year for everyone. I can't remember how long I've been a member, something like two years or a little over, heck half the time I can't remember what I did yesterday . I did have a little problem with someone (not a member of TPF) causing me problems and had to change up some stuff but it looks like that situation is gone. Hope i haven't offended anyone, thats wasn't my intention.

See thats what I'm talking about!!!! Just kidding DeLeon. There are a lot of new members and everyones scence of humor isn't the same so it's probably just me. Some of the members probably just don't have the energy or time to be as playfull with summer time being here, people planning vactions, the heat, and to top it all off parents having to deal with their kids all day now that school is out (that can stress anyone out). I've said it a bunch and still believe it, this is the greatest site on the net with the best members. I've only been able to meet a few but really enjoyed meeting them. I'me hoping to be able to get a gathering together sometime soon this summer at Caddo lake for some shooting and eating, I mean what two things could be a better match . I working on getting a barge and if it all works out i can take about 20 people around the lake, cook some sausage and burgers, and spend the day eatting, shooting , and visiting. Hopefully I will get the barge sometime next month or the first of Aug. Bet there will be some joking and picking going on then
