anybody find their girlfriend (boyfriend if female, or same sex, etc) while in college that led to a marriage? I am not good talking in person, I can't speak real well. I always get nervous. People regard me as the quietest person they know. I only speak a few times a day - because there aren't many people around me. Live with my grandmother and that's it.

I didn't meet my wife in college, since I'm just now going to college, but I did meet her while she was in high school. She was in the 12th grade and I had been out for two years. Friday was our 23rd anniverssary.

Don't be shy. Girls seem to like guys that are outgoing and not afraid to assert themselves. That being said, I am sure there are girls that like shy guys too. Have you spoken to someone about your shyness? It obviously bothers you since you posted this. Maybe there is someone you could talk to like a counselor or something?
In regards to you being lonely. That is in your control my friend. We choose our circumstances and how we react to them. I have never been to Lubbock but there has got to be things to do and people you can get out and meet. (Hence the part about don't be shy) Try and find groups of people that have similar interests. Maybe a photography club or something. Not sure if you are religious or not but I have met people in singles groups at church before that I have been very good friends with and am still today. There are also lots of eligible women. At any rate you just need to realize you are a person that is interesting and that other people would find interesting to. Get out and assert yourself and make some friends.

I met my wife at a beer joint, so my story goes. Now before you jump to conclusions, here are a few more details. It was Texas Independence Day, 1978. I had just finished playing Raquet Ball at the Deware Field House at Texas A&M and felt like a beer. So off to the Dixie Chicken. The rest is History.
Now see, for those that know the Chicken, meeting one at a beer joint is not as bad as it first sounded.

I met my wife in college, and after we dated for 8 years I decided that it was time for marriage. I know that 8 years is a long time, but I think that even after 2-3 you still do not know everything about that person. Actually it was pretty cool, because she took all the same classes as me, we both were doing our MIS degree.

8 years is nothing. . . I met my husband in junior high. . . he was my first "boyfriend" in the sence of holding hands and hugging. . . I was in 6th grade, 11 years old. . . after 12 years, living in different states, his divorce, we finally started "dating" again. . . during the 12 years there was a 2 year time period that we lost contact, but that was it. . . 3 months later we were married, and now we're rapidly approaching our 5 year anniversary. . .with two beautiful daughters in tow. . .

I met my husband when I was 22 (college age, but wasnt in college) But he was 26, it took him 4 months to say more than HI to me at work. When we FINALLY did have a conversation, we were at a bowling alley. I moved in with him 3 weeks later :) We have been together for almost 12 years and will be married for 7 in Sept.

Met my wife in college my soph year. Didn't start dating until almost spring break, tho we'd known each other since the first month of the year and been friends nearly that long. We both had the "shy" thing going as well, and a number of common and different interests. Married the fall after I graduated, and we're approaching 15 years of marriage now. So, it can work out that way. :)
I'd kind of echo Paul. Join a club, campus group, or hang with a church group you like. Don't just join, but volunteer for something. Groups like volunteers; it's a great way to integrate yourself.

Met my wife while I was in college, she was still in high school.... oh, and I was in Arlington, she was in Detroit (yes, as in Michigan). 20 years ago last April, we met online in a 300 baud chat room... we'll be celebrating 18 years in August.
Met my girlfriends on TPF, though. ;)
