Monitor connectors - 06-04-2007, 02:01 PM

I am looking to replace my second monitor (used mostly for PS toolbars and file windows). I have a video card with a VGA and a DVI connector (This one, I'm pretty sure).

Is a "15-pin mini D-sub" the same as VGA? I'm looking at a good deal on a monitor with DVI and 15-pin mini D-sub connectors, and wondering if it will fit my current card.

Thanks!!

Yes a 15-pin mini D-sub is the VGA standard for the analog connection. You'll get much better performance out of the DVI, but if you're already running your image editing display on the DVI, the analog connection for the second one should suffice.

On my office PC I have a nVidia Quadro FX 3450/4000 that has two DVI connectors. Since one of my panels is shared between the Mac & PC, I chose to use the analog for the PC. An adapter was provided with the card.

Have fun!

fwiw, in many cases the video d_sub connector is blue.

No doubt. I use the VGA for non-profiled stuff such as tool pallets, folders, previews, etc now on an old Envision 17" LCD.

When I finally upgrade my computer, I'll add a second card and profile both.

Thanks!
