... kick this man in the nuts.

You know, I can tell you where this all started. Some oil tycoon was watching the news one day and saw that some sports owner was holding a city hostage. "Build me a new stadium and we will play [inser type here]ball."

And he said to himself. "Damn that guy's got it made. Someone is going to build him a stadium for him to do his thing to make money. Why can't I do that?"

And there you have it. The very birth of what will surely become a situation where the oil industry gets the government to build refineries for them so that America can meet it's fuel demands.

And if one more guy in tie says "Well in Europe ...." I'm going to get his address off of Google and send Pika to talk to him.

Prophet out.

The bad news here is everyone keeps letting them do it. Get ready, soon you will have to pay a toll to get from Houston to Austin or SA. TYVM Gov Perry.

Well this is my retort to the "profit margin" argument.

Little Billy sells apples for $1. Little Billy has a 5% profit margin on every apple ($.05). Well one day little Billy realizes "Hey if I sell my apples for $1.25 and make 5% on each one I will make $0.0625 per apple. That is a net gain of $0.0125 per apple!" And as we all know, Little Billy sells a whole ass load of apples.

Soon Billy is selling apples for $3 a piece and lowering his apple supply to drive demand. Now Little Billy is making $.15 per apple and things just keep looking better for Little Billy Inc. and his shareholders.

So no. The fact that they made 8% profit on $10 billion instead of $8 billion doesn't hold water. They should not be making more money just because you charge me more (still waiting for a good reason that doesn't boil down to: 'cuz we wan'na) and then cry "oh its the same".

Pft. Don't spit on my doughnut and tell me it's glazed.

Prophet out.

Well... I'm staying in Alice, TX tonight... and driving almost 1.5 hours back to Tilden every morning this week... why you may or may not ask? and what does this have to do with this thread you will probably ask?

Cuz... that's why... no... that's not it... the 3 Rivers refinery is down. They are having a turnaround. There is not a motel room to be had for 50 miles... You should feel that at the pump in about a week... the gas station owners will feel it for real in about 2 weeks... maybe three... but they will have heard of it sooner and adjusted pricing as they see fit.

Todd is right by the way...

On a historical note... remember way back when gas was $0.25/gallon (I don't but I think that I read about somewhere or something like that)... Those were the days when the energy industry was run by old rough necks and their cronies. They knew how to get the stuff out of the ground and what to do with it when they got it out but they sucked at being businessmen (relatively speaking). Wanna know what runs energy corporations today. Accountants... people with letters like CPA and MBA at the end of their name. Not that that is a bad thing to have at the end of your name or anything... but add a high dose of narcissism to the degree and you get a no listening son of a bitch that thinks he knows everything and won't tolerate someone contradicting what he has to say Of course I mean that with all the respect that they deserve... What that has done to the industry is pretty sad... Efficiency and competence have been traded for "yessir... whatever you say sir manglement styles"... What used to take a day and one person to do is now a week long project that was months in the planning stages. 4 engineers... 18 meetings... and in the end... the AFE is usually trash... and they are looking for someone to blame. After spending 30+ years of my life watching the industry go to the toilet... it's kind of interesting to watch what happens as the remnants swirl along the bottom edge of the bowl... From a contractors perspective (soon to be my perspective)... it's not so bad. There's money to be made in confusion... Net to the consumer is less bang for the buck...

Golly, I can remember when the speed limit was lowered to 55mph, then we could only buy 10 gallons in the city, but all you wanted out in the boonies. Then gas stations were closed on Sunday, nearly ruining the ski industry in New Mexico. Well, the state of NM announce that gas stations would open on Sunday! Well, none of that worked.

Then I remember the pitiful sight of our President doing a fireside - oops the fire was not burning - chat telling us all to wear a sweater and keep our thermostats turned to 55! He then went on to loose in the largest landslide in history and is now a pain in the A.. to just about everybody.

I just want you to know what to look forward to when the government steps in. Oh, in the last episodes the price never went down.

You are right! My point was when the "P" takes over the "E".

If people wouldn't buy the stuff, it would go down.

You do have a point. I would like to think that I was a victim of a strategically situated commodity driven society. But the truth is that I am a hypocrate. I buy gas.

But you know with the higher prices there could at least be some hot half naked broads working at the joint. I'm just saying.
