owned by discount tire. - 06-04-2007, 11:28 PM

I have aftermarket wheels with aftermarket lugs. The last time I got a tire rotation from Discount, they stripped my wheel lock and told me that they had gorilla locks available for sale. I didn't think much of it and bought it.

Fast forward to today, i got a flat tire. I removed all the lugs except the wheel lock and i just realized that the wheel lock adapter is not the same size as my lugs. i had to walk a mile to the gas station and ask the attendent for a correct lug remover. ****ing sucked.

lesson: make sure ur aftermarket wheels have the right lugs and wheel lock sizes.

If they stripped it, why did you have to buy a new one?

The gas attendant has the correct lug remover. Talk about full service if they have one in stock.

Especially being Gorilla locks, they have quite a few patterns

I don't think the gas station had the adapter, they had the lug wrench that fit onto the adapter....

I carry one of the ones with 4 ends on it...

That's one of the reason I carry this in my toolbox, which is always in the POS jeep: http://www.galesburgelectric.com/Cra...3-p-p-932.html

That with a big breaker bar and some big freaking sockets can solve virtually any lug nut problems! Although...I HAVE had even that fail, it just tore the lug nut apart until I was down the stud, had to cut it out slowly with a dremel, took hours....

I have a set of special remover that will remove any wheel locks if you ever want to barrow them. Of course they're not that gentle on your studs, actually they destroy them. I bought then from a friend who worked at a wrecking yard where they used them to remove wheels they wanted to keep.

I've never delt with Discount Tire but with the way my back tires are looking I might be visiting them pretty soon.

I almost always use Discount Tire and have never had a problem. My dad used them a couple weeks ago and bought some aftermarket rims with locking lugs. He hit something in the highway and got a flat... couldn't remove his tire because they forgot to give him the lug key.

I'm scared now!

I had a real good experience with DT when a center cap was lost on a wheel they had balanced. I went back to them and asked if they had simply not put it on the wheel and could find it in the back. they didn't have it, and told me to buy one and bring in the receipt. I did and they covered it. I'm going back when I need new tires.

I have been a customer of DT for many, many years. No problems as of yet. But, when I get a flat, I'll be girly about it and call Roadside Assistance.
