Dry Mounting? EDIT: Matting - 06-06-2007, 12:39 PM

How difficult is this to do on your own?

Are there good (and cost effective) places in Houston that do this? What is the price?

I need to get these done for an art gallery.
1 20x30

Any suggestions?

It's not all that difficult, but it does take some practice to get your prints straight. I sure would not want to start with the sizes you have either.
I don’t know how much it is or any particular places in Houston, however I would call around to stores that do picture framing and ask if this service is available for the sizes you need. Maybe they would give you a discount since you need so many?? I'd ask.

Good luck and congrats on the show!

It can be done but it's not easy without a press. I would think about a traditional hinge mount with mat unless the gallery specified dry mounts.

And as in all things there good and cheap but rarely good and cheap. Remember you are displaying you work and want to look as good as possible.

I am not aware of any place that does just the dry-mounting, heat activated in Houston. You can use pressure sensative mount, problem with that is it is more expensive and way easy to screw up especially on larger prints.

What part of Houston do you live in Thomas?

I would second the tape and hinge or you could use the pressure sensitive tape used for framing. just a little strip of tape on the top of the print. I use that for fiber prints because i dont want any moister added to the print with the tape. Plus the pressure tape will come off. it's kinda like really strong rubber cement.

if you have mats and frames and your prints are in there tight you will not get wrinkles. I never dry mount a print for galleries. only commercial and 8x10s for portraits or unless the client really wants it dry mounted.

only place i know of is in dallas. bwc.net and there are a couple place in SA...

I can do it for you. The 20x30 is $15.40, the 16x24 is $13.00, and the 10x15 is $7.90. I'll throw in a 25% discount if you come in and tell me your from TPF.
