FYI... Photo Safari @ Dallas Zoo - June 23rd... You get to get into the zoo early, they take you to the animals and feed them... lots of opportunities for cool shots. Zoo members get a discount too.

Oh... and there will be a Canon rep there w/ lots of gear. Last year I got to play w/ a 300 f4 IS.... and he had a 600 f4.

Call or email the Zoo photographer to sign up.

Is there any additional info available online? I'm a Dallas Zoo member, and this sounds like an interesting event. Thanks for the post.

Went to this event a couple summers ago... was very hot.. got a few good things, but wouldn't do it again. As I recall, we had only limited animals we were able to see on this "tour."

You'll have much better results at the Tiger Shoot.

I did this 2 or 3 years ago - it was cool. You got entry before anyone else and they even placed food out (meatballs) for the tiger so you could set up for neat shots.

We were the first group I think to ever do it, so alas no reps with cool stuff to play with.

When I called Cathy this morning (to pay for me and my daughter), she mentioned that the webmaster had not put her information up on their website.... that being said, I asked if I could post her phone and email, and she was ok with that... nice lady, shoot her an email or call.

I do remember it being hot, but you do start early in the morning, and finish up around noon. They "wait" to feed the animals until you get to them, so the animals are "active"... at least for a short while. I just remember thinking... this is a WAY COOL way to see the animals up close - hence why I'm bringing my daughter (who is 6)

I seem to remember it was around $35.... but I didn't ask this morning when I called Cathy.... I just called her and left a voice-mail asking how much.

Been there once and the Safari has plenty of room for improvement.

I think the time was 30 minutes before the gate open, so it's 8:30am?? Anyway, 8:30am is too darn late for anything, and you only have 30 minutes of "private" tour before visitors came in. By the time you reach the silverback, that areas are crowded with school kids.

They need to start this thing at 7am or no later than 7:30am
