Film isn't only for Geezers. Some of the young folks today prefer their photography experience to be more "hands on."

Just one example. Age 18. Location: Estonia.

Good for you. When I figure out where to put it, I'll do the same. Where can I take an annoying class so I can use their darkroom? In Houston.

i know there is a place where you can rent darkroom space, but i forgot where. or you could just go to any local community college that has an art department.

Ok. I'll check into Cy-Fair. I bet they are all digital.
I was talking to a friend a few weeks ago. The UT-Tyler campus is building a new Art Department building. With a Digital Media Facility. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!! No provision for traditional photography. Hardly seems fair. Painting, drawing & music all get equal time.

heh, i don't think art departments in schools would go completely digital. usually they like to teach you the history of photography, so it would only make sense to have students learn traditional photography.

but if you're not taking it for credit then you don't have to sit and listen to lectures on the history of photography. i should have done that the first time around when i could have easily just picked up a book.

One would hope that were the case. UT-Tyler is going all modern. No film. No wet darkrooms. Zip!

I wouldn't mind a history of photography course. Heck, I've been around for about 25%-30% of photography's history. Still have the equipment too.

Personally.. I think the people that haven't shot film are missing something. I also think that the advent of digital is what contributes to so many people blasting a bajillion frames of the same thing and snagging one from the pile rather than composing and then shooting... If you have to pay for the film, developing, and printing you tend to be more thoughtful about how and what you shoot.

But I'm keeping my MKii... and I'll expand from there...
