Private Tutoring??? - 06-13-2007, 07:47 PM

I've been giving a lot of thought to my (lack of) photography education of late (shout out to Lawaris who posted a thread about just that...education...earlier today), and I've come to the conclusion that I need to fill in some blanks. While I try to go to a workshop here and there when I can, and I always find them helpful, I have very specific questions that I think can be answered in a simple one-on-one three-to-four hour session. I'm not at all interested in learning about composition, only minimally interested in learning about post-processing (although I'm seriously considering MyKey's workshop and materials), but I am very interested in learning how to use my 580EX properly as well as learning some very specific things about my cameras, the Canon Digital Rebel XT and Digital Rebel XTI!

So...I'll try to be less long-winded. I'm looking for someone with advanced know-how when it comes to the technical side of photography, particularly someone versed in the Canon line of equipment.

I'm pretty busy for the remainder of June, but would like to pair up with a tutor in July. If this seems like something you'd be interested in, please email me your availability, your website, your hourly price, your contact info, and anything else you'd like to share with me. I know we've got the best of the best here at Texas Photo Forum, so I can't wait to get to some serious schoolin'! Thanks!

K,

Thats the way to go these days.
I did B.S. degree sometime ago
and would NOT recommend that route IN THIS MARKETPLACE.

Good Luck in your Mentor search and note the Best Mentor is the Least TOR-Mentor !
H Town is prob too far from A Town - Darn Texas is BIG.

LOL, Eric. I think I know what you are saying. No matter the marketplace, this girl has already met her personal degree quota. I'm all for seminars and workshops to learn neat new tricks and efficiency-related techniques, but there are some camera/flash fundamentals that I am missing, and I believe that tutoring is the only way to go.

Thanks for the comment! :)

if you are looking for classes to take, just so you know there is a place called the Glassel School of Art ... they have photography classes and they mentioned to me that the photo classes are the most popular from all of their courses ... i'm sure they will be somewhat good, but may or may not be what you are looking for ... i plan to meet with one or two teachers before the fall session starts to make sure i know what is being taught

its about $500 a class and there are tons of classes in the curriculum ... here's the website ...

Thanks for the link, Bobby. For now I'm trying to stay away from actual classroom time. Most programs require a basic course, and most of what I'm interested in learning would come at the intermediate level. Also, I'm not at all looking to learn composition or darkroom techniques, and both of those studies tend to take up a big chunk of any formal curriculum. Maybe someday...but not now. :)

By the way, if you are looking for formal classes, Rice University's School of Continuing Studies typically offers a number of photography classes. Their full fall schedule isn't up yet, but the following is a link to keep in mind.

My apologies for not spelling "laawaaris" correctly. I knew I should have checked...argh.
