I had a terrible shoot last night with a model who showed up 45 minutes late with no make-up on. I waited around for another 45 minutes for her to get 'ready'. Then she has not a clue on how to pose, after telling me she modeled as a teenager for 2 years. The pictures she sent me when asking for a TFP were at least that old maybe older. Not to be mean, but time has not been kind to her. I should have cut the session after the first set, but Mr. Nice Guy couldn't do it. Shot for 90 minutes, none of which will be useful to either of us.
Note to self: need to be a little more selective when choosing TFP clients.
Sorry in advance for any nasty posts I make today :x

Well at least you can count it as "Practice".
Now you get to Practice with PS to see if you can reverse the effects of time. :D

Scott,
You are too nice. This young lady needed an object lesson for her delaying the shoot. Her lack of punctuality maybe the reason she hasn't been modeling.
I'm afraid I would have told her goodbye for being late. Rather her lost than 3 hours of your time.
I know you are trying to build knowledge and a portfolio but you as the photographer should set the stage. Someone that would be that unprofessional is not going to help your career.

It's a comedy of errors actually. First she said she was bringing a MUA to the shoot, so I think, great, someone who knows what she's doing. Then she calls to say the MUA won't be there, so can we go back to the original shoot time (I asked her to come 30 minutes early if the MUA was going to do makeup at the studio). OK, I say assuming that she would show up ready to shoot. She called at shoot time saying she is 'on the way', then shows up at the door 45 minutes later with no makeup or hair done.
She's a nice woman, but to be brutally honest, isn't going anywhere in modeling. As a teen she was cute, but that's gone now. I'll do maybe 5-8 images for her, but if she uses them, she's not going to get any jobs based on her looks.
At least I got to try out my new softbox with the grids. I'm not so sure I like all four gold interior panels. I might try mixing two gold and two silver to see what that looks like.

Well, you know what they say...you get what you paid for...I, myself shoot about 90% models who have no Ideas what they are doing for the most part, specially when doing TFP's unless they have a portfolio up to date that shows then can pull it thru (and by then they may not want to do TFP's) I treat each shoot as a challenge to make them look good and better IMHO than the last guy who shot them. So I tent to give them direction, specially when they stand there wondering why they are there.
So as a Photographers we have to learn to make something out of nothing, and show the assets, not the flaws. Take it as a learning curve, and if you can ger a GREAT shot of every TFP you do (even if it is an eye shot) in 12 tries you will have a great Portfolio. Use your imagination and keep your Kool no matter what is the scenario or if things changes at last minute...Welcome to the wonderfull world of Modeling pics, where the flakes and unreliable are just like the air...very common to all.
