The gift transfer is very efficient and easy, as I have done that with my sons' vehicles once they went out on your own. If there were an accident and it became a court issue in a lawsuit, for example, I have heard you could still be a party to the suit as you are still the owner.

Sorry.. forgot to come back to this thread. Yes, you can use the gift method and pay $10. We did that when we bought a car for my in-laws.

I am not sure how a gift works, but I suspect it is the same thing.

And remember, just because you have paperwork that shows the tital transfer that has to be submitted to the state to record it. If you don't you might get a call or visit (like I did) from some well meaning policeman wanting to know about a car that still showed in my name. It had been used in the commission of a crime in Lousiana.

The paper work had never been submitted to the state.

my best friend and fellow model gave me her car back in march. So we've been thru all this.

You ca get tickets, etc if it's still titled in your name.

just have her register it as a gift. that way she won't have to pay a rediculous amount of sales tax. that's what we did and it was easy to register from there.

That works well as long as the value is under $10000, gifts of value over $10000 you still have to pay taxes on.
