I have to renew my passport, and the guidelines for photos are: Quote: |
TWO RECENT, COLOR PHOTOGRAPHS. Submit two color photographs of you alone, sufficiently recent to be a good likeness of you (normally taken within the last six months), and 2x2 inches in size. The image size measured from the bottom of the chin to the top of your head (including hair) should not be less than 1 inch and not more than 1 3/8 inches. The photographs must be color, clear, with a full front view of your face, and printed on thin paper with plain light (white or off-white) background. They must be capable of withstanding a mounting temperature of 225 Fahrenheit (107 Celsius)... Snapshots, most vending machine prints, and magazine or full-length photographs are unacceptable. Digitized photos must meet the previously stated qualifications and will be accepted for use at the discretion of Passport Services.
| Does anyone out there know if prints made of my Epson R2400 will withstand the mounting temperature stated above? And what is a "digitized photo"? Does that mean I can send them a CD with the photo on it? Or do they just mean printed from a digital capture, which is what I'm assuming most passport photos are now?

Not sure about your printer. I just renewed mine for the 3rd time and it was easier for me just to go to the post office and let them take the snaps and drop it in the mail.
Takes forever now with all the new rules. I mailed mine on March 9th and just got it last week. I did not pay for the expedite and I sure didn't get it. Glad I was not in a rush.
Good luck.

I printed ours on a Canon IP4200 and they worked fine. I would think that yours would too.

I do them all the time on an Epson 7800 - Epson Premium Lustere Paper and have never had one returned by the client. Normally, I get those clients that want a professional looking passport photo! LOL Some even want it retouched! NOT! But you get the idea.
The mounting temp isn't a problem with Epson, I mount all my prints in-studio with a dry mount press, (heat activated) and they do just fine.

I've done them with a Canon iP600 and an old HP soething or other without problem. I think I even used cheap "Office Depot" brand paper on the HP one.

Not sure what printer the base uses but the guy there did ours and printed them off for us right then and they held up fine and that was a little over a year ago.
Good luck | | | |

Your printer will do fine, but if you're worried about it just get a 4x6 print made. Can fit 6 images on it if needed.
Did mine at Wally World for .21 cents, put 2 passports pictures on a 4x6 print and then cut them out. Much cheaper then a "passport" photo.

It should be fine, I did mine. Although I had the first try printed at the local CVS and the color was wonky, did it myself and all was fine. http://www.epassportphoto.com/

Much cheaper then a "passport" photo. | I guess my concern was not about the cost of the pictures, but more about the rules and regulations of "what" is acceptable and "what isn't". When you have set travel plans, 12 weeks is a long time to wait not knowing 100% if a "home made" passport picture 'may or may not' turn out being rejected by some peon.
Honestly, who cares, it's a passport picture.. it's not like one is going to flaunt it around.
Just my 2 cents

The standard is 1MP image. I needed quite a few of these over the past two years during my naturalization process and subsequent passport. Printing to spec is a bear. -G

$10 bucks at the local UPS store, so it's not worthy my time to take it, print it and crop it.

I have done several of these..I am by no means great with specs or the such. I printed it off on an old Canon i900D (not at all good quality as photographers think). They have not denied any of them..I think the biggest issue is getting the "head" the correct size. They always take a ruler and measure them when I turn them in...good luck. I will say if you are concerned..pay $8 and go on.. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
