I haven't shot in auto in forever.
My ?? is dh is getting an award EARLY in the morning and he wants to take my camera and have someone take a couple shots. So the ?? is if I have the camera set to Raw and Jpeg will I get a raw image incase they jack it up?
I am asking cause I had it in the other program mode on vacation while ziplining and it only shot Jpegs
TIA

If it's RAW and JPEG it should save both.

Typically the type of files to save is independent of the camera mode. At least this is the case on my Nikon bodies.

OK thanks guys. That is what I thought too but when I downloaded our pics from Alaska the ones on the zipline I put in the circle P mode and all I got was the JPEGS and I didn't change the file size. But then I shoot with Minolta so maybe it is something with it. Oh well I pray I get something decent lol.
Dh wanted to take the P&S but it is on 3.2 mp and we shot a few at the airport with it and they SUCK compared to the SLR lol.
Thanks again

If it is a canon camera, then putting it in idiot mode (on my 20D that would be the green rectangle) will allow the camera to make ALL the decisions for the person using it. IE: it will decide what iso to use, shutter speed, aperture, whether a flash is necessary or not, and also it will automatically autofocus when you depress the shutter button halfway. However, it will NOT capture in raw. If you have your camera set to RAW + Large/Fine JPG then it will automatically default to L/F JPG when you put it on the green rectangle. Switch it to the P mode and presto, its back to RAW + Large/Fine JPG. I personally would set it to P for Program and then setup the autofocus so it makes all the decisions for whoever is using it. I would try to anticipate the lighting and set the ISO in advance, probably in the ballpark of 800 so its a compromise of everything.

Thanks Nathan that explains why I didn't get the raw images on the zipline. I could kick myself I couldn't remember if it was P or the circled P lol
I got it set up and I will up the iso to 400 and hope for the best. Dh says it is bright florescent lights too so hopefully that will be enough. And I have the WB set to florescent.
Thanks again for all of the help guys!!!
I greatly appreciate it :D

Thanks for askin Jay.
We saw lots of eagles obviously (several in all 3 Alaska ports)
2 caribou in Skagway
the same bear twice in Skagway
some ducks and canadian geese
A couple of canadian flying squirrels
Humpbacks of course
and some seals and sealions.
We were pretty happy with what we saw.

We went on another tour out of the San Juan Islands that was supposed to see Orcas (didn't happen) We saw A MINKE whale and that was it, very dissapointed.
We also saw more eagles, a blue heron but I was too short to get a shot of him, more seals and seallions, all kinds of birds ( but the boats sound system sucked and you couldn't hear much) oh and some purple starfish that the boat didn't slow down enough to shoot cause they were worried about the eagle :(
All in all we had a great time on the cruise and would love to do it again but preferably by vehicle, cause honestly we didn't do enough on the ship to spend that kind of money lol.
Had it been just dh and I we probably would have been able to do more but we spent tons on the 3 kids too. They enjoyed the kids zone so I guess it was worth it :D
Thanks for asking I will post a few as soon as I get my site up and running :D
