I just found this event.
Do you guys think it would be "ok" to go there and have camera and business cards handy?
I am trying to get some more pets on my site and thinking this may be a start. What do you guys think?
Or do you think it would be a waste of time?
TIA

6/28: Greyhounds by the Bay - Sighthound Stroll and Picnic

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reply to: see below
Date: 2007-06-27, 8:01AM CDT

The June Greyhounds by the Bay Sighthound Stroll and Picnic is scheduled in conjunction with the Bay Jammin' Concert Series at the Cole Park Amphitheater.

All Greyhounds and their owners, other sighthounds (Salukis, Borzois, etc), and sighthound-accustomed dogs of other breeds are welcome!

Below are the details:

DAY/DATE: Thursday, June 28, 2007

TIME: Gather at 6:15 p.m., Concert at 7:30 p.m.

LOCATION: We will gather in the north parking lot at Cole Park (closest to the condos)

THE PLAN: We will stroll around Cole Park and on Ocean Drive, as time and energy allow. You can join the walk at any point or drop out as needed. No pressure here. Following the stroll, we will perch on top of the hill facing the amphitheater for a bring-your-own picnic and to listen to the rhythm and blues harmonica and vocals performance by popular local artist Rocky Benton.

Bring a brown-bag picnic supper (or make a run to the nearby Whataburger), a cooler for your beverages, and a blanket or lawn chair. Be sure to have plenty of drinking water for your furkid(s) and plastic bags handy in case your pup "needs to go".

Greyhound-friendly dogs of any breed are welcome to join us! Want to stroll but don't have a hound? Not a problem. Contact Judy by e-mail greytmom1@aol.com or telephone (361/992-9370). Eager Greyhounds are waiting to hear from you!

If the weather is inclement on Thursday, alternate plans will be made. Check http://www.heartoftexasgreyhounds.com for details

I don't think it would hurt to ask to take a photo for your portfolio. How do you get a model release from a dog?

As a dog owner, I wouldn't like a sales pitch. If you give out your card, I think you will get some traffic from the curious pet owners who want to see how good their dog looks. I think you will also get some people who want a pet portrait. This event sounds like a good chance because of the size and organization.

Another idea (if you like to volunteer) would be to help out the above website with their dog pictures. I think that would get you some exposure.

Steve

in my experience it has not worked for me ... i've gone before and asked parents if i can shoot their kids while they are playing a team game in the open field ... i usually show them the pictures i took and they get very happy ... i leave by handing them my card ... but i've yet to get a single call from doing that

anyhow, i think those dog owners will really love to have their pets photographed .... they may even groom them and set them up before you take a snap

you can if you want ... but i would just take my camera and wing it ... i take my camera with me wherever i go and take pictures in open squares all the time ... nobody ever says anything ... sometimes they ask why and i just say that i'm having fun ...

the other day i took a photo of the grocery store cashier before i paid ... he was real surprised but in the end he was good about it

EDIT ... here's the grocery store clerk ... didn't realize his eyes were closed

You use a property release signed by the owner. Must of the better stocks require releases for domesticated animals.
