Ferrets - 06-28-2007, 08:21 AM

Well we seem to have come up with a silver ferret this morning .. we put the dogs out and the Yorkie was under the deck losing his mind chasing something. The wife went out to check it out (this is 1 hour before my alarm .. no I don't send the wife to check out strange sounds ) and she found a silver ferret. Poor little thing is skinny as hell, but healthy and friendly as can be. We're gonna put up some signs in the neighborhood and see if anyone claims her. If not I'm gonna keep her .. I haven't had a ferret since Max passed away almost 10 years ago from cancer.

Actually that is Max my previous ferret .. he was a rescue also but from much worse circumstances. He was abandoned in a garage when a guy was evicted, and had eaten a large amount of a flannel shirt that he was left with, it bound up in his stomach and after he was taken to the ferret rescue in Ohio he had to have emergency surgery to remove it. He almost died, but lived for another 4 years before he died from adrenal cancer in 98. The new one is a DEW .. dark eyed white. I'll get some pics of her tonight after I get her cleaned up.

They're cute, but the last time I handled one, I thought I'd never get the smell off my hands. Not real fond of the musk. LOL

Yes in the old world Yorkies where used a varmit chasers, they haven't forgotten it either. My cat brought home a mouse it had played with until it was drunk and while I was trying to distract her from it to save it my pregnant Yorkie that gave birth the next day swallowed it whole. Poor cat looked all over for it knowing it couldn't have gotten away so fast.

Ferrets are neat. Since it is so tame it probably did just wander off, but then again people will dump anything so you can never tell. I'm glad someone as careing as you found it and will make it a good home if no one claims it. Yes let it get use to it's new place before you make a camera ham out of it. I'm sure along with being thin it is also stressed from what it has been through.
