Steve McCurry of Magnum to speak in Waco - 06-28-2007, 05:45 PM

This has been in the PJ section but I think it needs wider exposure as it's not every day you get to see an exhibition of a major photographer but hear him speak about his work.

Steve McCurry
of Magnum will be speaking this Saturday, 30 June 07 from 1-2:30 at the MCC Conference Center at McLennan County Community College. His work, South, Southeast will open in exhibition at the Art Center Waco that same day.

For details see Art Center Waco
.

Why is he at Waco instead of the DFW area? You would figure a much larger exposure here ...

Maybe the Waco's arts community has more imagination?

Face it what Museum in DFW does photography with any frequency? Just one the Amon Carter and this work doesn't fit their mission.

Smaller art organizations are becoming more creative than the hide bound museums in larger cities.

True ... maybe the TPF members of large urban centers (such as DFW, Houston, etc) can have monthly meetings (that might make us a smaller art org) and arranged for these things to happen ... given the number of memberships, surely we have enough density to make it worthwhile

what think you?

Truthful, I think the vast majority of TPFers could care less about this kind of photography. Also and event like this take some serious money and manpower to put on. You'll note they got a grant to do it.
