Let's see... eight thousand videos, 90 minutes per video -- that's 12,000 hours of footage (give or take a few thousand). If he gets eight hours of sleep and works eight hours a day, leaving an hour for meals, that's seven hours per week day - assuming no work on the weekends, fourteen hours per weekend day, totalling sixty-three free hours per week. I'll cut that down to sixty to be on the safe side.

12,000 hours of footage divided by 60 hours per week makes two hundred weeks, or about four straight years of watching movies.

Wow.

(yeah I'm bored tonight...)

At that point I would have plead not guilty by reason of mental defect. I mean, come the hell on. Eight thousand videos? You got to have some kind of compulsion disorder at that point.

So yup, it's gon'na be the old insanity defense for me and Pika. Er, I mean it WOULD have been. For me. Because Pika isn't real.

I got to go.

Prophet out.

If you file the plea for the two of you I think the judge would have an easier time accepting it.

I mean what's more classic than filling an insanity defense for yourself and an imaginary friend.

Or better yet, claim that you are perfectly sane, but file the insanity claim on behalf of your friend Pika. That should work.

It's funny you say that. On two occasions now, I have received Netflix movies about 10 days after their email said they were sent. And this last time, I noticed that the round sticker in the middle of the envelope had been peeled off and then stuck back on. They were kinda wrinkly and ragged at the edges, and the glue lines didn't match the original. So the postperson may be watching my movies and then returning them to me later on.

This is why I won't use Netflix. I tried them out several years ago as part of a free trial thing when I bought my DVD player. I returned all of the movies in the pre-paid mailer that they included and one of them didn't make it back to Netflix. They tried to charge me over $90 for the missing movie. I called them, explained that the movie was indeed returned, and that I should not be charged for it. In a nutshell, they said, "tough luck, you owe the money anyway". Only when I sent a letter and copied the BBB and the attorney general did they contact me and say, "Well... I guess we'll believe you. This time." That's literally what they said.

I have no experience with Blockbuster so I cannot comment. However, as long as Netflix continues to use return mailers that clearly say, "Netfilx" all over them then they will have this problem. It's like telling a postal employee, "Hey, there's a DVD in here. Steal it!"

I'm curious as to how many Netflix customers were being billed for movies that they legitimately returned.

I've been with Netflix for quite a few years now and have had 3 lost in the mail, 2 arrive broken, and 2 that I lost myself, and even the 2 that I lost myself they didn't charge me for them even though I clicked the "I lost it charge me" button. I'm guessing the reason you had a problem was the trial account.

Maybe so. If that's the case then they didn't handle it very well at all if they were hoping to gain a customer. Instead, they lost one for life.

folks have been known to cruise neighborhoods and peruse the mailbox contents, looking for outgoing checks, "free" credit cards, SS checks, etc. so it may not be postal employees. ALtho in this case it was....
