my granfather in your prayers or what ever it is that you do.
He has been in congestive heart failure for years. Had several heart surgeries over the years etc... He is diabetic and isn't doing well at all. He went to the VA just the other week. After being there for 16 hours they sent him home. Didn't know what was wrong. The next day my grandmother called the Ambulance to take him to the hospital (civillian)
He was there for 5 days. He was swollen with fluids etc...
TO make a long story short. I just talked to him and he is ready to "go home". I think he is waiting until I get there though. He and I were always close. He sounds like total crap and told me he wants to die I don't want him to suffer any more even though I don't want him gone. So if you could say a prayer for him.
DH and I have to discuss when he gets in when we are going home. His chief has said he will grant him the leave when ever we need it. So it is float just waiting on the dates.

On top of that a really good friend of mine lost her baby girl last night. She was born at 24 weeks I believe and survived for 5-6 weeks. If yall could keep her in your prayers too. Their family has been through so much. He little 4 year old has battled cancer since he was just under 2 and they have lost like 4 babies total.

I just looked at airfare and holy crap we will have to drive.
$500 times 5 people this totally sucks as it is a 27 hour drive to begin with :(

I can totally relate. My Grandmother passed away just over a year ago with Congestive Heart Failure. She suffered greatly with it for about 8 years. They would go in and take some of the fluid out but it just kept coming back. It's hard to watch them go through that. She and I were close as well and it's probably one of the hardest things I've had to go through. At the end, she was like your Grandfather is... and she just wanted to be with my Grandfather who had gone on before her. Just remember to be there for him. While she was in the hospital, I just sat and asked of her life growing up so that I would get the most of our time together. I'm glad I did, now I know so much more about her!!

I will keep your Grandfather and your friend in my prayers!!

i will definately keep you, your family, and your grandfather in my prayers....i just got back from seeing my grandmother - she's had 5 strokes since mothers day and slipped into a diabetic coma briefly and a host of other things are failing now - in NC and also went to see my wife's grandmother - she has congestive heart failure and they just diagnosed her with cancer and her kidney is failing - in SC...we drove also...alot of driving but it was well worth the trip...when you do go, be safe, and again my prayers will be with you and your family.

I guess it is just hard to accept that they are old and their time has come.
Roxanna I am sorry for your loss, Donnie you and your family will be in my prayers. It is really hard.
I think dh would rather I go by myself cause his family will be pissed that we spend all the time with my side, and I think he would rather not deal with it. But I look at it this way if he is going to be on leave then he might as well be there for me. And my grandfather really wants to see the kids again. He says that my dd reminds him so much of me :(

BTW Donnie what part of NC did you go to? And SC? we have a little family down there but we were stationed in Charleston and drove that alot.

Good news is I just looked up the directions and apparently a new road is open or something cause now it is down to 21 hours and 4 minutes. So atleast there is a little bit of good in all the bad.
21 hours with dh, 3 kids and a dog, Lord help me lol, as we plan to drive straight through and still only have 4 days there.

we left here last saturday at 5am and i drove until i could not see anymore - made it to alabama at 5pm and camped there for the night....next day we headed over to Greenville SC to see my wife's grandmother and then to Cary NC (outside of Raleigh) to see my grandmother and stayed with my parents for a day...then drove to MD to see my wife's parents and my brother....and then drove back from MD on friday and got in yesterday - i lost count of the miles and hours spent on this trip but to see both of our grandmothers and to give my son an opportunity to see them again for what could possibly be the last time made it all worth it

Breezy...call the airlines and let them know you are a military wife (don't know if that helps), but I know if your grandfather is in the hospital or if by some unlucky chance he doesn't hang on until you get there, you can get a discount on plane fares either way...find a person on the phone that has a sympathetic ear...they can help if they are in the mood...good luck...I'll keep your family in my prayers. Thanks Ranae. I just called for a guy 2 weeks ago and the last minute military deal was only like 100 off. And unfortunately we just don't have that kind of money since we just got back from Alaska.
So we are driving this time and if he makes it a while longer then I will fly home alone.
Thanks for the reminder about the discount though.

Donnie, I know where Cary is my mom works in Chatam Co. We are from Montgomery Co though. Glad your son was able to see them again. That is what I want. But wished we had more time. We are looking to leave here Sat night. I will start out driving, and then dh will take over. He can sleep while I am shooting the session on Sat. Then as long as it is dark I can sleep in the car. So we only plan to stop to eat and go to the Bathroom. If we make stops we wouldn't have but 2 days home total and that isn't worth it to me. 4 days will be bad enough.

Thanks again for all of the prayers and kind words it means alot. Especially since my mother is in denial. And she will blame my grandmother (she always has about everything). I told her what my gp said to me, I told him we would try to come home, Normally he says not don't worry about it, I don't want to bother you our for you to have to go through the trouble etc.... But this time he said, that would be nice, I would enjoy it. That is why I really think he is holding on until he sees me.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather Breezy. I've been living with CHF and Afib since Spring 2001. I know how hard that is by itself. I don't think I could deal with heart surgery and diabetes too.
