Waverly Hills Sanatorium (Louisville, Ky) Visit and Tour in August - 07-11-2007, 02:02 PM

My brother and I will get to take the night paranormal tour of the infamous Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville when I go for my visit next month. Last year, after reading about the site and watching the Ghost Hunters episodes as well as the Sci Fi special "Spooked" and other programs about the old TB hospital, reputed site of approximately 60,000 deaths during the TB epidemic in the 1920's, I drove through Louisville and to the Waverly Hills grounds, but were unable to see much more than part of the building as the property was gate doff and closed to casual visitors. It should be an interesting tour, although I would have liked to have gotten on an overnight program (They're all booked through 2007).
I'm probably going to take my Sigma 17-70 f2.8 for the tour on my 20D as well as my 580EXII flash. I will have to experiment with shooting in "dimly lit or flashlight lit" rooms before the trip to see what might work. This would definitely be a case where I might not want to ratchet up the ISO too much because of the noise impact. I'll have to see. On the off-chance someone here may have been on a "ghost" tour like this, let me know if you have any shooting tips.

I've shot several abandoned hotels and various locations that have that same "ghost" feel. I shot on my canon 18-55 lens, ISO 400, P-Mode. I would highly recommend taking a tripod and cable release to get some really good shots. This past weekend I shot an abandoned college campus and was able to capture some amazing shots with the help of my tripod.

Have fun on the trip and I'm so jealous!

P.S. My avatar is one of the places that I've photographed.

Thanks, Chris. That's very helpful. I will probably take my monopod as there may not be the time to set the tripod and shoot. I hope I have some interesting pictures to post from it. Cool avatar. Thanks again.
