It's a grey fox and yes from the site that had wav's of the sounds they make I found out it was probably up in the tree, reason I didn't see any on the ground that night. I was surprised to find that out.
They don't tend to bother cats or dogs unless they are sick. Don't know if there are a pair of them since I have only seen one at a time but that was the case with the coons too...took seeing 2 to know I had more than one. I listened to all of their wav's and some are distinctive enough to know it's not any other animal while some sound similar to dogs.
Site also said you shouldn't feed them which is true because they get lazy and expect hand outs and they can carry rabies (so can all the other varmits out here though). When I first saw it, it was pretty thin so I bought some cheap dry dog food for it, the possiums and varmints to keep them away from the house and cat food. I don't mind with living with foxy around, but it has to know it's my territory too LOL. It's not as thin now so I will not put out as much food for it. I do hope it's still around by the time I buy a Bigma lens so I can get a shot of it. I don't see mine daily either, but I bet it's around when I'm not out there. Never seen a red fox on my place but have about a mile down the road. |
