PS3 Players...come on, I know there are a few of you! - 07-13-2007, 01:01 PM

Alright everyone, come on out of the shadows and admit you too have a PS3.

Tell us about it! Done anything to the looks? What games do you play? What is your PSN ID name?
Lets try and set up a time once a week to get online and play eachother!

I was one of the guys who stood in line for 39 hours to get mine!

I just ordered a skin for mine, can't wait till it gets here. While the shiny black looks great, its time for something more colorful!

I am not on Rainbow 6: Vegas. Beat the darn game in a night, didn't want to bother with the realistic difficulty, so I've been playing online. Got too dang tired of Resistance online, needed something fresh! Instead of doing it like I have in the past of keeping all the games I buy (the good and the horrible), I decided to just keep a low number of the best games.

I have Assassin's Creed, GTA, and Warhawk on pre-order!!!

Games I own: Resistance, R6:Vegas, Splinter Cell: Double Agent.
PSN ID: hudyxray Add me!!!

Some come on everyone!

I'm going to be very upset if I'm the only one on here with one :(

-Mike

i have a PS3, its the 20gb version and I got it on launch day also. I have MLB the show, NBA, Madden and Transformers... Honestly I dont play it that much but its cool to have. I have it in my media room and its cool because of the BluRay (i have HDtv)... i dont plan to do any skins or anything like that tho.... but I cant wait for GTA to come out

With recent price drop, i returned my standalone blu-ray player and replaced it with ps3.

$450 + 5 blu-ray tittles is pretty decent deal. But i use it for BR playback only, no gaming for me.

Well it is amazing even without the gaming part. It is a good BR player, also very cool for streaming media from your computer to your TV!

39 hrs? I guess he didn't realize you'd be able to walk into any store and pick one up off the shelf a week later

A guy at Gamestop told me that the PS3s plays Blu-Ray, but it's actually upconverting vs. true hardware decoding to HD from the disk...do you know anything about that?

no, it plays true 1080p bluray, but there was a recent firmware update and it now upconverts regular DVDs now... pretty cool

Ray - I had been watching the PS3 ever since the rumors about it surfaced several years back. A friend of mine and I decided to skip class for the day (neither of us had classes the other day), but some broo-has in a Camelback and relax in line, haha! Besides, I went back to the stores about a week later, and none were to be found, so I'm not too sure where you live, but up through December, there were none in the stores. Shipments of 2 or 3 would arrive at random intervals.

Ahh - that explains the deal...:)

Mike -

I did the all night stay at Best Buy for the 360 the year before....was cold and miserable, but got the 2nd to last one that morning...

(and, of course, since it was first gen - it died last August, before they bumped the warranty)

TxManx - That's too bad. I had an original Xbox for several years. Jeez, prolly bought it about 5 years ago (or more). I pulled it apart, soldered in a modchip, bigger/faster hard drive, lots of lights, cut the case and put in a computer style window. Anyways, got rid of that right before I left for college 2 years back.

I didn't bother with the 360, had too little time, and the hard ware didn't impress me enough :/

Looks like its time to go buy a PS3 and Rainbow 6 and get online! ;)

I think he referred to dvd up-convert not BR playback??

Hardware upconvert using the a dedicated video processing chipset like Silicon Optix or Faroudja and a fine example of software upconvert is using processor power of PC with software. Hardwired thousands line of codes into chipset, thus it play faster and cooler, consume less power for the same task

In the case of ps3, it's a software upconvert since they got pretty of juice left in unused cells i believe. But it's powerful enough for the simple task. An upscaled sd material to hi def "resolution" is not the same as native hi-def material decoded on BR or hd-dvd.

And by the way, ps3 blu-ray playback is smooth as silk and best yet money can buy compare to standalone BR-player. DVD upscaling ain't bad either but not over the top.

I saw on Amazon that it is 499.99 with 6 Blu-Rays, and a Bluetooth movie remote???

Ehh, doesn't really matter since I already have one. Just waited for the non-ported games to start coming out!

5 free movies is available for any BR player purchased 07/1/07-09/30/07

Amazon throw in one free movie, "momento" + BR controller control while CC give you the $49.99 wireless game comntroller for free. But when you order online at CC, the wireless controller disappeared for some reason and the $50 discount still activated. So it's $450 with 5 free movies. If you don't want wireless control...... or just buy it from amazon for $39.99.

Ohh, damn thats a confusing rebate system, haha!

How about 249.99 with 26.5 free movies and 11 games, 15 remotes, custom painted any color?
