Relocating.. need thoughts (near Dallas/Plano) - 07-14-2007, 02:06 PM

I'm in Fort Worth currently.
And we are looking to move to Dallas..actually
anything that's the Plano school district.

Where are some nice areas?

Was looking near this lake/park..is it nice there?

Need to consider traffic as well.

Thanks for any input.

If money is no object then move to the Park Cities. You also might check out Frisco, Allen or McKinney. Frisco is just north of Plano and is supposed to have a good school system. The also have about 3 million soccer fields.

My wife and I moved from California three plus years ago and targeted Plano for the schools also. We live in the Willow Bend area. If it's in your budget, the zone between the Toll Road, Preston Rd., Park, and Parker is very nice. Three excellent elementary schools and of course Plano West High School.

As far as traffic goes, it depends on where you work. Traffic flow in general is east to west and north to south in the AM. Opposite in the evening of course. Feel free to drop me a PM if you have specific questions about my area.

I'm familiar with this area. I take my 2 kids to Bob Woodruff park very often. (My 6yr old is a duck picture fanatic) The neighborhood here is a little older with fully grown trees. The houses close to the park are nice (around 2000-3000 square feet, built in the late 70's and 80's) A few further away look like they were built in the early 90's. I live 2-3 miles east of the point on your map in Murphy. In 1998 Murphy was almost all empty fields. Now you can find almost anything for housing 2500 sq ft and up (But very few big trees :( ). The Rolling Ridge subdivision competes nicely with the West Plano neighborhood mentioned by Scott. If you want to live on the east side in a little older house you are in the right place. If you want something newer come to Murphy.

Susan-

I grew up in Plano. My parents house is on the West side of 75..close to Collin Creek mall. IMO, I would pick an area that feeds into Plano Senior High or Plano West. I agree with Scott on moving to the far West side of Plano. If I was moving to the area, I would pick Frisco. Development and houses are newish, and everything you could want is there. Drawbacks are there is alot of traffic, and it is far from parts of Dallas if you happen to work there. Good luck! Let us know where you start looking.

I have moved from that area, but I lived in the Addison/N. Dallas area just west of West Plano. Plano is a great area to live in especially the west side. The area you show on the map is a good location, and the park is a great place. The only flaw with Frisco is the traffic congestion that's grown out there. And supposedly they will be covered on 3 sides by tollroads eventually. Good luck on your move.

Where you are looking is nice. What are your traffic considerations? Where do you need to drive when?

I grew up in Plano and graduated from Plano West. I lived around Parker and the Tollway which was always (and still is) a nice area. I'd definitely recommend the West Plano area, but I've heard a lot of good things about Frisco as well.

i lived in plano for about 5 years, 5 years ago - in the neighborhood you are looking in, my house butted to bob woodruff, so we didn't have a back alley. trees are great there, the only draw back are the elementary and middle schools. williams high isn't that great either, but my kid was in IB and spent half her time at vines - sr high was plano east - at the time, the only sr. high with the IB program.

most people don't care for the older neighborhoods, there is a lot more 'diversity' on the east side vs. west side. on the flip side - it was easy to get on 75 and gb turnpike and if you were commuting downtown, very close to the rail station.

We like Frisco, and would choose it again. We put 3 of our kids thru the system; one of them is teaching here, and another would like to. The third walked away with a full scholarship to UTD and just graduated with a degree in Neuroscience. Frisco schools are committed to smaller building sizes to maintain a lower student/staff ratio and more individual opportunities in the elective programs...
Traffic is not that bad, although the toll ways are a drawback. Shopping and restaurants are great, and keeping the tax base low. Homes are new or newer...mine is only 11 years old, and we have been here thru the growth pains. And the legendary Plano speed traps don't happen here.
Plano has its great points and so does Frisco. And there are some points that are just a matter of personal tastes. We like it here and would do it all over again. But we love our neighbors in the suburbs of Frisco such as Plano.

We lived in Plano, then moved to Frisco and to be honest, couldn't wait to get back to Plano only a year later. Frisco is growing so fast that you can't get anywhere quickly. If it's traffic that you are considering, I would stay North of 121. My step-daughters go to school in Frisco. They are in 3rd & 4th grade and they will both be going into their 3rd new school in the fall, yet they haven't moved at all. 2 Years ago they started in the latest new school and last year, they had portable buildings set up because it is growing so fast.

I would definitely look towards Plano. It's pretty centrally located for everything in the Dallas area. My husband is from here, and we live on the West Side. I hear that the Bob Woodruff park area or the Los Rios area is nice if you look on the East Side.
