after doing a google search, I find this: http://www.informationweek.com/news/...leID=201001821

I may end up going back to ATT, but from some of the searches I've done, vonage is in trouble too

let's put it this way: During Rita (and I live in Cypress as well), we were without cable/web for many days. Without electricity for at least a day. Without cell for what seemed an eternity....
But the POTS (plain ol' telephone system) never went down. There's something to be said for hard wired old school land lines. Heck we only pay like $25/month for no-frills local line.

My service is still up but a friend's service has been down all day.
I am considering Packet8 unless someone has some horror stories to tell. I researched them and they seem to be OK. They have been around 20+ years and are publicly traded. They also make their own equipment and have over 60 patents so they should not run into the same problems as Vonage.

I was looknig at viatalk too, but since I use this line for business, I'm thinking about going back to ATT. it might cost more, but I can't afford to not have a phone when customers are calling!!!!!

I've had very good service and customer service with Vonage. I pay $15/month for 500 minutes with no long distance fees, voicemail, caller id, etc. No complaints.
Now let me clarify I use this as a 2nd line, my primary line is still Verizon FIOS.

After researching my fingers to the nub I decided to give Packet8 a spin. I called and talked to them and after researching others I decided to go with Packet8. I'm not saying they will be the best but some of the reasons I selected them were:
The majority of the reviews indicated good to better than average sound quality
Reasonably good customer service
They have been around for 20+ years so they should not run into issues like SunRocket
They make their own equipment so they can support it directly
They have 60+ patents so they should not have similar problems with patent infringement like Vonage has with Verizon
They will port my SunRocket number over
I used linkshare to get a discount. linkshare.packet8.net

I just paid my due last month to extend another year of contract, that's $199 + tax for a crook!!
The dispute is in the hand of my credit card company now, #fingers crossed#

Many people got their money back by disputing. I had good deal 199/2year and 11 month was done in it. So all good.
But I am going with Lingo now. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
