Another Photoshop question - 07-18-2007, 07:59 PM

from me.
Dh wants to know the difference between CS2 and CS3? I have no clue since I have never used either.
Do you know the price difference between the 2 and is CS2 even still available?
Sorry for all of the questions.
Money is a factor BUT we would spend it if CS3 is supposed to be TONS better etc...
So can yall help me out?
TIA

The two biggest improvements with CS3 are Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw. That said, there are several new things with PS itself that are really nice as well. CS3 is really "da bomb."

I don't know about a site to compare but I have had both. CS3 is WAY better than CS2. You have lots of control over tonal values when converting to B&W (my reason for purchasing the upgrade) and you have the ability to bring .tif and .jpg into Adobe Camera Raw. Everything I shot from last summer and before was shot in jpg. I can now bring those into ACR and treat just like I do my raw files. It really ROCKS. Also, Bridge loads tons faster and there are so many more options. My processing time was cut in half with CS3 compared to CS2 (and I'm not sure you can even purchase a legit copy of CS2 now). Just my $0.02.

So in my other thread something was said about buying another version with the educational discount and then doing an upgrade to CS3. what version would I do that with and would it be worth all of the hassle?

If you have version 5.5 or later, you can upgrade to the full version of CS2. Now, I'm not sure if you can upgrade directly to CS3 or not. You might have to upgrade twice, and that probably woudn't be all that much cheaper than just buying CS3 outright.

CS3 includes a new tool: the Quick Selection Tool. It is similar to the Magic Wand, but works on a different algorithm, and it used in stroke, as opposed to multiple selections.
