Memory is physical memory - Memory sticks - that the computer uses to process data quickly.

Virtual memory is the use of hard drive space to simulate memory. The computer will write to and read from the drive so that larger programs can run on computers that do not have enough physical memory. Virtual memory is a lot slower than physical memory because it must read and write a lot to the drive and drives are not as fast as electrons in physical memory.

If you do not have enough physical memory and your hard drive does not have enough space to increase the amount of memory needed, then programs that require a lot of memory will not run.

OK thanks Paul.
I bought 2 gb of memory yesterday and a 500gb hard drive (external) if I plug that in it should solve the problem?
I have 14.6 gb free on the internal not sure what happened it was at 26gb free yesterday before they put the memory in, cause I cleaned it out to upload yesterdays wedding which was just under 4gigs.
Thanks again for the help

If uou intend to use the new HD for VM, you will need to change the location of where you Virtual Memory (SWAP file) is located or just clear off some space on your primary drive.

However, 14GB of free space is plenty for your VM. As you increase the amount of RAM in your machine, Windows will recommend that you increase your swapfile/VM as well. Many times the general rule is 1.5x the size of your physical RAM. However, this is a debatable practice.

What OS are you using? If you're not using a 64bit version of OS, Windows will only address up to 3GB of total RAM even if you have more.

Within PS, you might consider tweaking the memory preferences to use more of your RAM for the App.

Good luck.

Thanks guys yall are talking greek to me lol.
BB said to bring it in and they would tweak everything to make it work with Elements and if I do order CS3 which I am waiting to see if they solve my problem that as long as I do it within 30 days they will tweak it for CS3 too.

As for the OP system it is the vista basic so I was told that CS3 had to be the 32 bit not the 64 so I assume that means it is 32 bit?
Hope that answers your question
Thanks again for all of the help.
BTW should I take the External HD up there with me when they tweak it?
