Photography in Public Spaces...... - 07-29-2007, 09:28 PM

Hi guys I have been thinking about an idea I had called Photography in Public Spaces. I wanted to bounce this idea off other photographers and see if anybody wanted to help with it. What I am wanting to do is to bring photography to public spaces. These spaces could be airports, hotels, parks, civic centers etc. I truly believe that images (that are done right of course) can greatly enhance the communities around us. Imagine walking in downtown Dallas and along your trip you see beautiful images of Texas created by local photographers. Also imagine running around white rock lake and being able to enjoy images that show beauty, endurance, and a sense of satisfaction. I believe if done right we could greatly enhance the lives of our communities and our visitors who come here. Now I have not thought up everything with this idea, but I think it would be a cool project to try and get going. I would not know where to begin or who to talk with about this. I hope that there are other photographers out there that would think this would be a great idea. Does this sound like it would be a cool project or am I totally nuts?

Not likely to happen and to be honest when I go to White Rock I AM THERE TO BE THERE and not somewhere else.

See you would have to work with various city depts for each city and if you go into some civic centers they are their own fifedom with their own beurocracies.

Now maybe think of a series of posters for DART to use across their system, more of a captive audience in boring situations (riding rail/bus/train waiting for said rail/train/bus).

It's a lovely idea but you may find that legally, these are NOT "public" at all.

Austin airport has a good selection of images along these lines, local scenes from around the Hill Country and Austin on the walls - so it certainly seems to work well there.

Salt Lake City airport has a big series of Utah scenes along the concourse next to the moving walkway. I have no idea how you get the gig but it's a great idea.
