Update on my computer ordeal for those of you who have helped. - 07-29-2007, 11:36 PM

I am backing up everything again. Taking it in tomorrow again just picked it up this afternoon.
The story is this, The computer that I have will not work with with Elements 3 as it just isn't compatible with Vista.
The version Vista (basic) isn't compatible with CS3, Go figure
So I upgraded the ram for nothing.
Long story short, I pitched a fit and went off when the "girl" argued with me and rolled her eyes at me.
But after about 2 hours I will be walking out tomorrow with a new computer, with Vista premium, more ram, larger hard drive, dedicated video card (I think) which ever is better anyway. All of that with about $50 bucks in my pocket.
They are refunding my ram and install fee. Taking the old ram back along with this computer, and swapping it out, I pay the difference but it will be in my favor with the refund of the ram etc...
So hopefully I will be happy.
Now I just gotta buy CS3 as I have no PS that will work :(
Thanks again for all of the info you guys gave :D

Just think of all the crap that all the computer stores need to go through, like this, because Microsoft is incompetent when it comes to backward compatibility. Do you think that MS will make up for any of the losses the stores encounter?

I hear ya Duffy,
This computer is only 5 months old though, they could resell it as an open box item etc... and still get money out of it.
Osy yeah that sucks huh, and what really sucks is their "geeks" kept telling me that it would run perfectly fine.

I guess I'm confused .. you got an upgraded computer because the computer you picked with the OS you bought, 5 months ago, wasn't compatible with a piece of software you use now? I fail to see how that is the stores problem .. sorry.

I gotta say, I find this hard to believe..... Vista "basic" and Vista "premium" shouldn't have any differences in software compatibility.

Wow, just went to the Adobe site and sure enough it's true....pretty shocking.

Pretty weird.

No I didn't get to "pick" my computer. We have been buying computers from BB for about 7 years and buying the extended warranty, my first toshiba worked great with my version of photoshop. But it had several problems and they finally "junked" it And with the warranty they give you another comparable computer. Well Vista had just come out and they didn't give me the choice, I was told I could get "this" computer. I was guaranteed that it would work with PSE etc...... I got it home and it "worked" but not properly and slow as crap.
Then I was guaranteed that if I upgraded the Ram that it would run CS3, I upgraded the Ram and the computer wouldn't run the PSE at all.
So yeah it was their problem because I am sure I am not the first person to go in there and tell them what I want it for and be guaranteed that "this" will work when it doesn't.
They made it right finally so that is what matters. Cause they were first telling me to go buy XP service pack and then I wouldn't have anything that came on the computer etc... then they also threw out other suggestions but they all involved lots more money.
Had I gone in there and picked out this computer it would be one thing but I didn't I was forced to get the one I got which ultimately didn't run what I had told them I would be using it for. And the computer had been in there many times for various reasons.

surprisingly there are a lot of differences between the 2 programs...and many new laptops, and desktops, are coming with Vista Basic. Of course you can always "upgrade" to Premium should you choose to later, but I'm always wary of "upgrade" vs a clean install.

You could right click on the executable file and change the compatibility mode to WindowXP. I am running legacy software (old software) in compatibility mode without any problems.
