I went to Japan for 2 weeks in April, and there were some pretty disgusting looking foods in the convenience store!

One of the truck stop burger places had a hamburger with a giant fried (sunny side up) egg on it. Plus, tons of convenience stores had 6 to 10 inch long WHOLE fish in vacuum sealed plastic bag things.

I got pretty sick halfway through the trip (tonsillitus), so unfortunately I didn't take too any photos of the convenience stores and such. Mostly just photos of the attractions I went to (castles, temples, cherry blossums, geisha, and such). When you don't feel good, you're lucky if you get any shots at all!

numerous trips to japan in the 80-90s taught me to not eat things where I couldn't read the packaging....and in some cases if I could read it.

Like the sport drink: "Sweat" (yes that's the name of it) ...yummy sounding, right? and it tastes like watery milk. Or so my friend told me (he lost the draw) shortly before gagging and spitting it out....

"I'll have a nice cold can of Sweat, thank you...."

I don't think the Japanese are real concerned about health. Over 90 percent (ballpark figure) of them smoke cigarettes. Why not add a "heart attack in a sack" to the lifestyle.

I had the same thing in Wisconsin.
