Traggic Morning 2 LODDs - 08-03-2007, 06:28 AM

This has been a very bad morning. Just before 2am, my department, Bullard, was paged to assist Flint/Gresham on a house fire. Noonday was also called out. Things went very wrong. Two of Noonday's firefighters became trapped inside. By time they were pulled out it was too late. The images of the scene are haunting. I visualize it and start thinking about they will never hug their families again.

Damn, that's sad. I feel for you, and your colleagues, who do a dangerous job on behalf of us all.

Today has been very rough. The images of the happenings have kept running through my mind and needless to say I have shed many of tear today. I didn't know them by name but once I saw the photos of Kevin I remembered him from other fires.

I got a reminder this evening watching the news how important fire scene photography. Not just for documentation and evidence but also it allows people to see their loved ones in action and in a case like this when a firefighter loses his/her life to see them as they were.

A couple of the local stations have been showing photos of the fallen firefighters and the one of Kevin Williams I noticed that it seemed familiar. I looked at my photos from past fires with Noonday and sure enough. I had given Noonday a copy of my photos to use and they passed a photo of Kevin to the media and cropped to show just him. I was very touched.

Kevin is the one in the back. This photo was taken at a house fire on March 23.

All those emergency personnel who go out there everyday to make sure that we have limited tears in our lives, all of them are certainly in my prayers.

I'm so sorry.
