Get ready for more restrictions on photos in public places. I would prefer an alternative method for making sure folks like this are no longer cause for worry, but that's a whole different thread.....

From the linked story:
"A self-proclaimed pedophile who posted pictures of little girls to his Web site and made blood boil by insisting he was within the law to do so....."

It won't be limited to actual shooting of kids, just the mere presence of a guy with a camera in the park will be enough to set things in motion. It has been slowly increasing (remember the Southlake incident) and this kind of bs will only make it worse....

I'm not up on my photography law, but isn't one of the clauses for photos of children that they cannot be for sexual gratification? He explicitly states that he finds them erotic:

“I admit there is kind of an erotic arousal there.”

I hate to say it, but I'm surprised a few dads haven't gotten together with ski masks and at least sent a message to this guy, if not taking him out altogether.

I've been seeing that guy in the news lately. The linked story has him in tv interviews and he's getting a lot of national coverage. He seems to be working to draw more attention to himself instead of less and it makes me wonder if he's trying to get someone to attack him so he can sue or if he's some kind of attention whore willing to do anything to get famous. It seems to be working if that's the case. I think he wants media attention more than pictures of kids.

Let that crap happen here in Texas and see what happens. Somebody would be getting a little bu77 kick'n to say the least. But that is just MHO.

Yep, I always have to explain to non-Texans what a "Down Home Prayer Meeting" or a "Come to Jesus Discussion" actually means.

Don't forget a simple "Chat behind the Woodshed" is another option!

I had a discussion along these lines with the publisher of the weekly newspaper I free lance for. I had shot a summer recreation swimming program of small kids. At the pool, I went around and told the parents what I was doing so they wouldn't wonder what an old man with a big camera was doing. Contrary to normal practice, I didn't identify all the people in the shots - only the adults. The publisher wanted the names of the kids. He wasn't upset - he just didn't seem to think putting kids' names and faces on the front page of a newspaper was a problem.

I did.

Interesting point about the kids names. When I was shooting for the papers around Grapevine the kids had to be named for them to use the image. Just thier take on things, but your point is a good one.

I agree the guy needs to be off the streets... He's just begging for a showdown. You know what they say, "Don't wish to hard, it might just come true."

Friday evening my step-daughter had her drill team showcase after camp (all the schools putting on an review of the dances they learned during the week). My wife got irritated at me when I told her that she'd have to take the pictures during the event because I wasn't going to take the chance of getting flak from a parent I didn't know from another school. She thinks I'm just paranoid, but just don't want to hassle with the double standard of taking photo's of kids. If I was a soccer mom with a cheap Walmart P&S nobody would think twice about it, but I'm a male with a big scary camera that's is only suspect at best. It burns me up that I have to limit what I can do with my own family and friends because of stereotypes.

I, hate it, and think this guy is pushing the pedophile agenda. Or as they now call it "Pedosexual" after Metrosexual. He is dangerous, and it will further the hysteria already out there about people taking photographs. Seeing as how I am a sex crimes investigator for the Sheriff's Office, this dude sends off all sorts of warning bells.
